Any chance at all?

admist all this nonsense, i will answer the question at hand

i think you have good stats and will get into harvard

WAIT IM TOO IMMATURE and YOUNG TO KNOW ANYTHING

community college look out for sarbear

ok seriously though

good GPA, pretty good EC's but bc of SAT im not sure about nyu though

my uncle went to a community college for political science and now makes $200,000 a year. :)

i never said it was a bad thing

I have already been offered a half-paid scholarship from a local university with the scores/grades/activities I have now. Thus, I am trying to get my scores up and take more tests so I can either a.) get a full-paid or b.) go somewhere like NYU or Carnegie Mellon.

and i hope you get into both

thank you, that's very kind of you. :)

and im being sincere

so which would u rather?
what is your major

Oh..I'm not picky. I'll have to see how things work out. Depending on the school that I attend, I want my major to be speech pathology, nursing, or physician assistant. I was just excited to see that NYU offers speech pathology, which is tough to find. Plus, many kids from around here attend NYU. I'd be happy majoring in any of the three though.

Your everything else looks very good except for the SAT score, which might take you out of consideration right away. I found this on collegeboard.com. You may need more than 1800-1900 to put yourself into a better position.

Thanks. That's what I'm aiming for in regards to my SAT score. I think if I have a 1900 by the time I apply, I'll atleast have a chance that is equal to the rest of the applicants.

For the careers your looking at, going to a school like NYU that costs $50K/yr probably doesn't make sense. NYU only gives meaningful financial aid to the very strongest applicants, so even if a 1900 got you in (which isn't a good chance) it would probably only be if you pay full freight. There are so many good schools for a fraction of the cost that will get you where you want to be.

Awesome. Do you have any suggestions? I always thought NYU was $44,000. I know someone who goes there for physical therapy and someone who is pre-med. Many of the majors offered are completely useless though, and have no jobs. My brother went to PSU for engineering and never did find a job in his field.

Well I'd start with your state Us. Then there are small private colleges all over the Country under $30K. And State schools that don't cost an arm and a leg OOS. Where do you want to be?

Well I live in the Pittsburgh area. I'm not interested in PSU though, because my brother was miserable there and I don't like it very much either. I am also not interested in the University of Pittsburgh due to the main campus area being so unsafe. Other than that, I don't have many restrictions. I'm just reading the brochures as they come in the mail.

Get a Fiske guide. Much better than waiting for the schools to come to you.

Just curious: What majors are worth attending NYU for? Majors like Italian, and theatre usually just leave people jobless (atleast around here).

Tisch (although you're right about most being jobless) or Stern are the only NYU schools I'd think about paying for. If money is no object and you like the school, go for it. But no one cares where a nurse or speech therapist went so if you'd be just as happy somewhere else.....

You could apply to the Gallatin School of NYU. It's all about individualized learning and stuff, so it seems to fit your self-studying thing. And it's easier to get into than the College of Arts and Sciences, and I think all the other schools as well.

Honestly, if I were you, I wouldn't put too much stock in brochures. They are largely propaganda pieces. Go on to Collegedata.com and have a look at some of the schools its match test recomends.

Good luck retaking your SAT scores. I understand the pain, believe me!

university of maryland has an incredible speech pathology program
