I can't decide where I should apply ED.
Among the schools I mentioned, is there any match school?

Korean-American living abroad

GPA: 3.70/ 4.0 (The maximum GPA is 4.0, not 4.3. Anything above 94 is an A and something in between 84 and 93 is a solid B. Anyway, my GPA sucks)
Class rank N/A b/c my school doesn't rank
SAT I: 2270 (710 C/R, 780 Math, 780 Writing. I will take it again in Oct.)
SAT IIs: IIC 790, Chem 770, US history 700 (crap)
APs: I haven't checked my scores yet, but I have taken AP Chem, AP English Lang. and Comp., and AP US History.
TOEFL: 280
English is my second language, and I have been under American curriculum for 3 years.

Senior year schedule: AP English Literature, AP Calculus AB, AP Biology, AP Spanish Language, Physics (1st year), Global Issue (real easy class), and Strings (which is the same as "orchestra" class in American public schools)

My GPA for the first semester of junior year is really crappy. I got something like 3.15, so my cumulative GPA went down significantly. However, I bounced back by getting a 3.75 in the second semester.

Brown, Dartmouth, Pomona, Williams, Amherst, and Duke are going to be slight reaches. If you want to get into Brown make sure you ED and present yourself well in your application. Brown looks for unique individuals by looking heavily at the essays. JHU is more of a match, however it still rests on your essays. I suggest you apply to more matchy schools and a safety or two.

New List

Super Reaches/Reaches/Slight Reaches
Brown (1st Choice, I will apply ED)
Dartmouth
Pomona
Williams
Amherst
Duke
Lehigh BS/MD

Match (Not sure)
JHU
Rice
Bowdoin
Emory
Carleton
Tufts (I have legacy there)

Safeties (not sure)
University of Texas at Austin
Boston College
Baylor University
Boston University

Could anyone evaluate my chances for each school? (Btw, my guidance counselor says my essay is fabulous, so would I have a shot for Brown?)

I don't think your scores are /that/ bad, and as long as you keep an upward trend in GPA 1st semester senior year, I definitely think you could get into most of the schools you listed.

I've heard that UT-Austin is a VERY hard school to get into OOS. 95.4% of the students there are from Texas. I wouldn't call that a safety, especially with your GPA.

Rice is a pretty good match/slight reach.

I know you dont know your rank but how do you think you place? Where do students from your schools with 3.7s end up. Come places a 3.7 is pretty good, other places its not so good.

I think somebody with 3.6 GPA ended up in Cornell, but his SAT scores were outstanding (1560 old SAT I, and 800 for all SAT IIs). He got rejected from Columbia, where he applied ED.

There is also another person with 3.5 GPA and low SAT scores who ended up in Rice.

both #3 and #4 of last year's senior class had like 3.9 GPA and ended up in U of Michigan because of their low SAT scores.

Ppl with GPA's over 3.65 (At my school, one should have at least 3.65 GPA to be in the National Honor Society) ended up in schools like Northwestern (one of them in HPME), Tufts, Bryn Mawr, Duke, Wellesley, U of Chicago, BC, UPenn, Cornell, and UC Berkeley

Lehigh is not a reach...more like an easy match and/or safety

i said lehigh accelerated med program, not regular lehigh

I think you are right on target with reaches/ matches / safeties. Good list.

UT Austin and BU are not safeties for anyone, unless you live in Texas. BU is not a safety though, sorry.

I think you mean BC.

Oh, oops, yeah BC. Whatever the good one is, I've forgotten because I'm not interested in them.
