Any chance at Harvard with a 2.5 GPA?

Now that I got your attention...

I applied to NYU ED.. I stillhaven't got my letter and I think my mail man probably screwed something up because he has a tendancy to do that....

GPA: 3.63 UW
School Dosen't Rank
SAT(old): 1250

In 9th grade I was in all regular classes except for math, and I was in integrated science and my GPA sucked. I worked the summers of my Freshman and Sophomore years to catch up and now I'm full IB after a lot of hard work and sweet talking my consuelor. So, I went from regular cclasses with a low GPA to full IB with a high GPA, but my overall is still somewhat low. I also moved from living with a bi-polar guardian who wasn't on their medication and I moved out of state after I was abonded. Will these things make me stick out in my essays and such? Should I mention them?

EC's:
At my old school
BPA: President
Key Club
Multi-Cultural Club

At my new school:
NHS (Vice President)
SNHS
Young Republicans
Young Democrats (Yes, I'm in both, I like both sides of the coin)
Quiz Bowl team

NYU is my first choice and dream school and I applied EA and included all my unique "baggage" in my essays. Please evaluate my chances and be honest! I know I'm sub-par, but I think I may be extremely in my essays by talking about how it affected me academicaly and socialy and what not. What do you guys think?

Also, I have done a summer internship at a law firm, have over 150 hours community service at a hospital, did the Cornell Summer program and I had to skip two years of Spanish because my old school had 6 periods for the whole year, so class of language a year. Here, it's 4x4 so you have to have 6 years. I skipped Spanish 3 and 4 and went straight to IB Spanish 1 and got an A and a B+ in IB Spnaish 2. So, in short, I skipped two years of Spanish and did very welland included it in my persoanl statement. I wrtoe the above post a long time ago so it's in the future tense. My school dosen't rank and I'm Full IB. Freshman year I was in all regular classes and took courses over the summer to be in IB. Thanks for any feedback at all!

Can anybody suggest any similar schools like NYU if I don't get in ED?

Good business schools and schools in general that I applied to are....

Carnegie Mellon's Tepper
UNC
Virginia (McIntire?)
BC
Penn State Honors (Smeal)
Cornell
Michigan (Ross)

If you like economics, try University of Chicago.

Consider Indiana - Bloomington for Business as well. You will get at least a 6K per year scholarship there, and it's business school is in the top 10 in Management, Marketing, Operations, Finance, Entrepreneurship, Accounting, Supply Chain/Logistics, and Information Systems. You will also get into Honors there likely, if you apply to the Honors program.

It also gives you a true college experience, that you won't receive at schools like Carnegie Mellon, BC, and NYU, and the tuition isn't near as horrendous for you as any of the other schools (with the exception of UNC).

your circumstances wouldn't really cause them to look at your essays in a different light... but what they would do is evaluate your achievements, GPA, and score in context.

that said, now i'll answer the q in the thread. i think harvard is most probably a no, but it's really hard to tell for the other schools...

i think when they see your a YR and a YD they are gonna toss your app

Don't worry so much. I had a friend get in NYU early with a 1270, no legacy, but instate and a few good Ecs... don't worry too much about it...

Eh, your SAT scores are a bit low, but you have a chance b/c of all your activities and stuff. Definitly I hope you talked about understanding different opinions (young rep and dem) in your app. NYU, i think, really likes ppl to be strong in their beliefs, but well informed
