I'm going to start off by saying I literally just signed up to this website a minute ago to tell my tale. My GPA came out to be a 2.5. Unfortunately, my dad got really sick and it just hit me very hard and it was hard to stay focused in school. However, during the second half of my junior year, I picked my grades up to a 3.8 and I still have around that GPA today as a second quarter senior. My SATs went as expected, slightly above average in Reading, average in Writing and absolutely dreadful in Math. This might sound annoying but my college essay really kills it; I'm pretty proud of it to be honest and it's something I think will only help my chances into getting accepted. My top choice would be SUNY New Paltz. I know they're becoming more selective but it's the only school I can really afford with my dad's medical bills and really liked the vibe of. I applied to New Paltz, Lesley University, and two local colleges as safeties all early action. I applied regular decision to Stony Brook just because my guidance counselor pushes that on everyone. Do I have a shot at any of these? Are there any other schools you know of that I should consider? Thank you!

You would need to tell us your actual test scores. Also, ask your guidance counselor to note your dad’s illness in their recommendation if possible.

depends on your SAT scores honestly… if they were exceptionally high then we can see that your dad’s sickeness was indeed a factor of your low gpa but if it is not then none of us can tell for certain,

new paltz - reach (based off of what i know)
Lesley - match

chance me ?

Sure. My dad’s illness was noted in all 3 of my rec letters as it really dramatically affect me. 600 Reading, 410 Math, 530 Writing.
