Any chance of scholarship money?

Hey everyone, i was hoping that someone could maybe give me an idea of whether i may get any scholarship money from BU. My stats are as follows:

SAT I: 1510 (760M, 750V)
SAT IIs: 720 MIIC, 760 Writing, 700 Spanish

AP US History: 4
AP Spanish Language: 4
AP English Language and Composition: 4

This years classes: AP World History, AP Spanish Literature, AP Calculus AB, AP Art History, AP English Literature, French I, Advanced Video Art II

GPA: 3.8 Weighted (obviously senior year higher, 4.2W currently). I’m coming from an extremely challenging private school in L.A. that is well known among admissions officers so we are told that they expect a lower GPA.

Awards etc.:

Honor Roll all grades thus far
National Merit Commendation
AP Scholar

ECs:

Young Leftists Club - Founder/President/Editor of its weekly newsletter
Varsity Tennis (3yrs) - CIF-SS Championship winning team, manager 12th
USTA Tennis - SoCal and National ranking
Admissions Committee - 3yr member
Movie Making - directed a number of short films/music videos
School Newspaper - occasional political column writer
JV Soccer (9th, 10th)

Summer/Job exp:

Month-long intern for U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer’s election campaign
Day Camp co-counselor
Parish Thrift Shop regular volunteer

My school doesn’t rank; my essays were great (the main one contrasting my U.S./U.K. upbringing and how it shaped me - i moved to L.A. when i was 12 - i hope this may be a partial hook as well seeing as i want to study poly sci. i know one of my teacher recs talked about how i have an interesting perspective b/c of my bicontinentality); my recs should have been awesome. Anyhoo thanks a lot,

i hope this post didn't seem arrogant as i know BU is a very competitive school to get into. i've just been told that scholarship money is a possibility i just don't know how realistic it is...i hoped somebody here might be able to help

I think you have a very good chance of getting scholarship money.

You don't seem arrogant at all-- modest, if anything. You're well above average even for scholarship recipients at BU in many (numerical) regards.

haha, based on the stats above it seems as if you have a wayyy greater chance than me for the full tuition, trustee scholarship, provided you did apply for it early.

If you applied for the Trustee Scholarship, you have a pretty good chance of getting it. If not, you will most likely get one of their half-tuition University scholarships

i didn't apply for the trustee, what would i have had to have done to apply for it?

You would have had to apply (and be nominated by your school) by December 1, and written an additional essay.

S was accepted early decision and got a half-tuition University Scholarship. We don't qualify for need-based aid. The only standardized test score he submitted was the ACT, which was a bit lower than your SAT, but his GPA was much higher in a tough college prep curriculum. BU gives priority consideration to ED applicants for that scholarship, so I don't know how it'll all shake out by RD decision time.

I thgink you can count on the half tuition scholarship for sure and the others I'd say the odds are 50-50.

I think that you have a great chance of getting the University Scholarship. As for the "other" scholarships, please keep in mind that the Dean's scholarship, and Founder's grant are not totally non-need based. Good Luck!

With your high SAT you will likely be invited into the Honors Program and receive the half tuition schoiolarship...but who knows. You mention LA--is that Los angeles or Louisinaa? If Louisiana, that will help since you are not from where BU gets most of their applicant pool..

do u have to apply early application for the scholarship? cant u just apply regular decision and still get the trustee scholarship?

Deadline for the Trustee Scholarship was Dec. 1. I imagine that most applicants apply regular decision.

Most of the otherr regualr meroit scholarships like the half tuition University scholarship, do not require anything additrional than your regular school application. So thats a plus. They are all listed on the BU web site along with average stats for each.

Your stats seem fairly equivalent to mine. I applied for Trustee scholarship and my GC thinks that I have a fairly high chance of being offered some level of merit scholarship
