My son has been accepted to W&M and Emory. W&M is his top choice by far, but his FA award letter amount is about 2/3 that offered by Emory. Costs to attend both schools are about the same. With the award Emory is offering, we can afford to enroll there. We can't afford W&M with what they've offered. Is it possible to negotiate the award amount with W&M so that my son can attend his first choice school? Emory's a fine school and he's comfortable going there, but W&M is where his heart really is. What's the protocol here, if there is one? We're not interested in playing these schools against one another; we simply want to make W&M work out if there's any possible way to do so. Thanks for any insight or advice.

Unfortunately, we are not able to match financial or merit awards offered by other schools. We’ve awarded all the merit monies we have available. You are welcome to call the Office of Financial Aid to see if they have any suggestions but chances are they’ve given you all of the need-based aid that they can (we’re guessing you’re out-of-state which means we are more limited in what we can offer given that some of our aid is for VA residents only). We absolutely understand that cost of attendance plays an important role in deciding where someone goes to school and we want to help our admitted students make W&M affordable in any way we can but generally speaking once we’ve awarded what we’ve awarded that’s all that we can do.
