Does GW Ever Increase Aid/Reconsider Merit $

My D very eager to attend GW (1st choice of schools accepted to). They offered some grant $ and no merit $ but she is top 10% competitive hs (4 AP's,4.0 w this semester alone). Do they ever reconsider money and increase it a bit, if they know she would attend?

I'd like to know this as well. I'd love to attend GW WAY more than Miami, but Miami gave me $9k more in merit money and gave me the opportunity to interview for $32k (full tuition). Anyone have any experience with this?

Yes ! Financial aid is definitely something to ask for reconsideration. We have a family friend who received a minimal award last year, asked for more, and received a substantial increase (over $15K more!). It's important to do this asap as applicants who have been offered aid may have decided not to attend GW, thus freeing up $$$ for other candidates. It's important to schedule an appointment with the financial aid counselors asap to discuss. If possible, ask to meet with the director to ask for an adjusted amount. If not possible to do in person, call and/or have parents call as well. Good luck to all ! It's definitely worth asking for more $$$ !!

Good to hear! I'll definitely try and make contact with them ASAP.

Anyone else have any experience with this?

My S currently attends, we tried to get more aid for this year, his freshman. No luck; the amount he received didn't meet the "full need" taking into account our Expected Family Contribution. He was in the top 5% of his hs class, several AP's, high gpa. So I know he did not qualify for their Presidential Scholarship.
Good luck, we're looking for more help for his sophmore year.

How exactly do you go about asking for more aid money?

I think you should contact the financial aid office and speak to a financial aid counselor or the director if possible. Ask what further consideration they can give you for more aid. Ask if you can interview for the the chance to get more aid, submit another essay, for example. Good luck !

I checked with my friend to try and find out more details. Turns out that there was a GW connection that they felt helped out the situation. Also, their son was already receiving need-based aid and was given more. Sounds like it is tougher if you are only being considered for merit-based. Still worth a shot, but maybe not as easy as my initial post made it out to be.

Well, I was awarded $32k by Miami (within 2 spots of GW in rankings) and if GW could match that or come close I'd definitely attend. Hopefully it works out.
