Do I have any chance at University of Chicago? Also, it would be gladly appreciated if you could suggest solid safety, and match schools. Thank you for your help!

Writing: 760*

Besides piano, your EC's seem somewhat week. Thus, you really need to emphasize your interest in music. Be sure and mention all of the competitions you have won, recitals, etc. That said, I think you are a fairly strong applicant.

Are there stronger applications during the EA round? If so, I should probably just apply during the regular decision round so I'll have time to improve my grades.

I think the benefits of applying EA outweigh the downsides. If Chicago is where you want to go, then go ahead and apply EA.

Yeah, there are normally slightly stronger apps EA, however if you want Chicago, that shouldn't slow you down.

I agree with weasel, your EC's aren't that strong ie..lack of leadership experience. Try initiating a few more clubs that you honestly believe your school needs, or will benefit from. Be passionate. That's what chicago loves to see, passion.

As far as you UW GPA, 3.1...ouch, but the committee will very much overlook that if you actively persuade them with the overall application and passion.

Yeah, I agree with weasel again, influence the music part. It should add some character to your overall profile.

-Best of luck-

PS Work hard on creative, maybe even risque essays.

Yeah, I may receive one or two more leadership positions next year, but that's to be seen.

All I'm gonna say is YEAH CHESS CLUB, where the cool people are at!
Standard high sat low GPA - are you unmotivated or is you school work difficult - blah blah blah

Unmotivated for the first couple of years.

Might be too much of a reach. Don't apply early because the acceptance rate is only slightly higher and you'll most likely be deferred, after which a deferral is difficult to overcome.

Oh and I can tell you from experience that Chicago HATES, in particular, unmotivated students...or students who they perceive as potentially unmotivated. Just a tip.

"Also, it would be gladly appreciated if you could suggest solid safety, and match schools."

You should be in a very good position to be admitted to public schools. The University of Wisonsin at Madison happens to be excellent at chem, bio, and computer science. Your GPA is low for Madison but your SAT is way above their requirements. UTexas at Austin or UIlllinois at Urbana-Champaign would be good for chem and com sci.

The low GPA means most schools that are safeties for you are, judging by your test scores, far below your ability level. I'd apply to good state schools with normal admission requirements for OOS students (i.e. do not apply to Berkeley or Chapel Hill). If you prefer private nationals or LAC's, go for ones that tend to accept one bad application aspect.

If I were you, my list would look something like this (considering GPA. You're above 75th percentile scorewise at every school on the list. You might drop below 75th at Chicago with the lower acceptance rate this year, but probably not):

Reach: UWisconsin-Madison, UChicago, Reed College
Match: UTexas-Austin, UIllinois-Urbana-Champaign, UFlorida (if you're up for national merit)
Safety: Purdue, most state schools

Yes, do consider Reed; you show signs of undisciplined brilliance, one kind of typical Reed student. Reed is #1 and #2 in the country in biology and chemistry, resp, future PhD production rates (evidence of quality programs, at least), and has a 3/2 engineering/CS program with Caltech/Columbia/Rensselaer and UofWashington, resp. Plus, Reed has the only nuclear reaktor [sic] in the country run by undergraduates.

A nuclear reactor run by undergraduates? That sounds dangerous. ;)

It's okay, Reed's reaktor is cooled by pure beer-quality water from Mt. Hood; UChicago's fast breeder is cooled by hypertensive liquid sodium extracted from Lake Michigan anchovies, previously much more of a health risk, but zebra mussels and Asian carp have controlled the anchovies, and everything else.
