Any chances for UMD Engineering? Please chance me:)

Hi everyone. How do my chances look for their engineering program?

Virginia Resident

SAT: 1440 (730 Verbal, 710 Math)
UW GPA: 3.6
Weighted GPA: 4.2
Classes I’m taking right now: Engineering Honors, AP Physics 1, AP Gov, AP Statistics, AP Literature, and AP Calculus BC.

My grades right now aren’t very strong. I’ll most likely finish off the semester with a 3 A’s and the rest B’s. I realize that my GPA is average for their engineering program, but I felt like my SAT score and classes would somewhat make up for it.

I have shown interest in becoming an engineering by participating in STEM related extracurricular activities. Specifically, Virginia Aerospace Science and Technology Scholars (VASTS), Internship throughout a University (professor and graduate student) regarding electron configuration and their shape. Technology Student Association since freshman year (was the Treasurer my junior year). I have also been playing varsity soccer since freshman year.

Work Experience: (Paid) Soccer Referee since middle school years.
Volunteering: 100+ hours.

Please let me know where I stand for making UMD’s Engineering program for regular decision. What do I lack in?

Thanks!

Anyone? please

Last year’s stats for the engineering college (source: https://eng.umd.edu/freshmen-applicants) was an average 1415 composite score, with 1340 the 25th percentile and 1490 being the 75th percentile. Average math SAT score was 735, with the 25th percentile being 700 and the 75th percentile was 770. Average weighted GPA for class of 2020 was 4.44
There’s a lot of factors that go into it so it’s difficult to say what your chances are, it sucks but you’ll just have to wait and see.

bump… anyone with advice/tips?

@RicFlairDrip If you don’t gain direct admittance I think engineering school might be fairly easy (not like the business school) to transfer in after completing a year or two or prerequisites. Good Luck! It is really impossible to know exactly what they are looking for during the selection process.

@wheatonmom thanks! Based on my stats, do you think I am qualified for their engineering school at all?

I think you are qualified, but I’m cautious because my son with similar stats didn’t gain direct admittance 2 years ago.
I wish you the best of luck!!

@wheatonmom thanks a lot!

@RicFlairDrip Did you get direct admit?

@wheatonmom I did not apply early.
