Any college with ALL OF THIS?

I guess you could say I"m quite the picky type when it comes to college. Is there any college that fits al this criterion? Please help.

stuff about me: 4.0 gpa, valedictorian, good ec's, great SAT's.

-has to be a good college (Top 50?)
-definitely work hard, play harder
-have somewhat of a sports involvement/school spirit
-no competition amongst students
-preferably more than 20% jewish students
-good dorms and food
-greek life
-not too hard to get A's and B's/no grade deflation
-a city within a half hour radius.
-a nice campus

soooo, anything guys? any input is appreciated.

bumpitybumpbump

USC minus the Jewish part

Maybe Vanderbilt, I dunno if there’s any school that meets all of those though.

I was going to say USC as well except for the Jewish thing

From what I’ve heard, Vandy is far from the Jewish part. haha.

As long as I’m not surrounded by strait up hardcore catholics and chrstians i guess it’s okay with me. People have to be accepting of the fact that I’m really Jewish I guess? It’d be great if Duke could combine with Brandeis haha.

I would not worry about the religious part. Most colleges have jewish communities and students are generally extremely open and excepting all beliefs. I wouldn’t focus on that unless you are prepared to go a to a jewish school.

Yah, I wouldn’t want to go to like Yeshiva or anything.

But the thing is, I used to live in a really Jewish town in New York, and now I moved to a different state where my town is 50% Hispanic, 30% Jamaican and 30% white and I really hate it. Everyone sticks to their own racial groups and have their own stereotypes. I wanna get away from this when I go to college where the Spanish people arn’t all “chongas” (not to offend anyone) and etc.

Have you been to visit? When you do visit, make time to check out the Hillel before or after you tour campus. You might be pleasantly surprised at the reality, which includes a (very busy and popular) Kosher and Halal vegetarian cafe. I am not sure how accurate this figure is, but we were told on our visit last year that the class of 2012 is about 15% Jewish.
Wash U might meet your criteria, but it’s DIII for sports. You might also check out Michigan, Wisconsin and U Maryland College Park.
good luck!

UF should be close on most of the things you have mentioned. Neither Tampa, Jacksonville, nor Orlando is within 30 minutes of Gainesville, but all are within a couple of hours and Miami is within a few hours more.

I saw some numbers that suggested that UF is about 11 percent Jewish, but my guess would have been a little higher. You may not appreciate the preachers on Turlington Plaza, UF’s designated free speech zone, but they have the right to exercise their religion too.

Football and basketball national championships and UF’s national rankings as a party school contribute to UF’s “sports involvement/school spirit” and to its reputation as a place where undergraduates “play hard.”

To me, a “nice” campus would have a large variety and a large number of aged deciduous trees across an undulating landscape. UF’s campus lacks in both those regards, but it otherwise seems nice enough.

With a 4.0 GPA and great SAT scores, you should be able to gain admittance. You can probably choose courses at UF that make it “not too hard to get A’s and B’s.”

Just an FYI, 20% Jewish is absurd. BU has one of the largest Jewish populations, and it’s 15%, which is HUGE. Unless you want to go to NYU, Brandeis or Yeshiva, 20% isn’t happening.

UNC-Chapel Hill.

People here work hard but def know how to party. Greek life is pretty big. Sports are huge-particularly basketball and football. Campus is beautiful, and Raleigh is only 20 minutes away. Its def a great school where people have a lot of fun. And, to top it all off, it is one of the best schools in the nation and a top-5 public school. Lots of name recognition too with any potential future employers/grad schools.

I would suggest the University of Wisconsin- Madison.

-has to be a good college (Top 50?) - They are 35 I think.

-definitely work hard, play harder - Thats their exact motto I think lol. They have been on top party lists for years.

-have somewhat of a sports involvement/school spirit - Big Ten sports and have been very good lately. Lots of spirit among the students and the city.

-no competition amongst students - Umm, I don’t really know about this one, but it shows up everywhere to a degree. I don’t think its cut throat or anything.

-preferably more than 20% jewish students - I have heard it has a pretty significant Jewish population especially from New York. Its probably like 10% I’d guess.

-good dorms and food - They have dorms situated on the lake UW is on as well as in the urban area. Whatever your taste is you can find a dorm to fit.

-greek life - Not huge like at some other schools, but a good size with about 10% of students taking part. (About 3000)

-not too hard to get A’s and B’s/no grade deflation - I don’t know how to answer this because it has tough academics like all top schools do, but I don’t think there is deflation.

-a city within a half hour radius. - More like 5 minute walk  Its in/by the capital

-a nice campus - Madison has been rated one of America’s most beautiful campuses and its located on an isthmus between two lakes.

Overall is a great University with both an urban and rural feel depending on where you are on campus. Top programs and great spirit make it an excellent match for what you want.

Harvard? lol

[Reform Judaism Magazine - Admissions 100: The College Search? On Your Own Terms](http://reformjudaismmag.org/Articles/index.cfm?id=1375) lists schools with the greatest raw # of Jewish students and top 20 schools by % of Jews. Besides Yeshiva and Brandeis, there are schools like Northwestern (38%) and Emory (30%), among others. There have been lots of other threads on this general subject which I am too lazy to hunt up right now.

We visited Vanderbilt a couple of weeks ago. Current freshmen class is 18% Jewish. Regular Friday night services well-attended. 300-400 students attended High holiday services. They have made an effort to attract Jewish students. Very nice Hillel building with a kosher vegetarian cafe. 50% of the girls involved in Greek Life. Work hard. Play hard. Beautiful campus. A mile and a half to downtown Nashville. New freshman Commons area has great dorms. Food is good and their plan allows for some off-campus dining at local restaurants. Vanderbilt seems to fit the vast majority of your criteria. Top 20 school. SEC football and basketball.

Diontechristmas, you need but look a couple dozen blocks to the south and west in your own city where Penn is 28% Jew! ;)

I’m not Jewish, but anyone who is ranking schools by their Jew-ness (be they gentiles or Jews doing the ranking) creeps me out a bit…

Other than being 28% Jewish, Penn would meet your criteria, all while being closer to 1 than 50 in the top 50…

ilovebagels,
The wording of your post is offensive. The term is “Jewish,” not Jew. “Jew-ness?” You are talking about the OP creeping you out?? For many Jewish students, who comprise a tiny minority in this country, going to a college which has a fairly substantial Jewish (not Jew) population is one of many important criteria to be considered in selecting a school.

How would Penn (or any other Ivy league school) meet the sports, no competition among students, and “play hard” criteria?

Syracuse? Just sneaks into the Top 50. Syracuse isn’t much of a city I know, but it does have the 5th largest city and metro population in NYS. I think SU meets the rest of your criteria.
