Any Current GSers That Were Asked for Final Semester Grades before accepted?

For those that were accepted and were asked to furnish a final semester transcript, did you have a flawless last semester at your previous institution? I am asking this because there our finals are heavily weighted and there is a possibility of having an A minus, or maybe two, and possibly even a B+/- in a course (Calc III) that is essential to transfer as a math degree candidate at GS. Everything else would be most likely A's. My expected GPA for the semester would be 3.7-4.0

Random,

I’ve tried to do some reading about found that being asked for final semester grades is the academic equivalent of being asked for a phone interview (behavioral). Phone interviews are for, usually, if the human aspect of the application is borderline - but academics are solid. If the behavioral aspect of your application is on target, but your academics are shakey to them, they’ll ask for final grades.

I think a 3.7 and above should be fine for them. I unfortunately have Minuses in my grades where I’m at, so last semester I got all A’s and a B, but that gave me a 3.6 GPA because of minus grades.

Thanks for the reply and I hope you are right. I am just a tad worried about my math course because they throw so much heavy weight on the final to the point where an A can literally become a C. Additionally, my instructor is adding 3 more sections to include in the cumulative review…( yes this is me pouting) Any way, everything else should be A’s and possible A minuses so im happy about that. If I get rejected for having one B in a course I am going to freak out!

I think it would be a good idea to talk to your professors and let them know your situation. If you are a good student, I’m sure they would be happy to let you do an extra assignment or rewrite to perhaps boost your grade (or, more likely, assure you that you have nothing to worry about).

Juniper:

From personal experience (last year), i’d strongly caution against that recommendation, despite how good it may seem.

Academia is extremely competitive, and Columbia is one of the few Ferraris of that world. As such, your professor may naturally become jealous to some degree, and may sadly become actually HARDER on you as a result of finding this out…

Thus, if your current professors have written letters of rec, go for it. If they haven’t, be cautious.

I’d rather state your trying to transfer and are on the cusp of meeting the requirements, and not mention Columbia.

Last year, I had a professor (who was a goof though, and a pretty bitter guy to begin with) actually CALL Columbia to verify I had applied when I told him my situation.

At Santa Monica College we don’t have a minus or plus system, rather A or B. When I reached out to the professor after our final, I found out I ended with an 89.3% in the class. He gave me a B…

Fair enough! I guess I’ve just been very lucky with the kind professors I’ve met.

I have already thought about that juniper, but thanks for the idea and also, you’re not the first to recommend it. I know this honors teacher pretty well. He goes out of his way to let you know there is no recourse.

@Phillyman- My thoughts exactly.

Interesting. I was admitted, but they asked for my final transcript with current semester grades. I’ve already sent the deposit. Should I be worried about anything? There’s a small chance I’ll end up with a B in this stupid writing class…

I think its more protocol that they need your last transcript so they can see which courses transfer. In my case they want to see if I didnt screw up my last courses for the semester before they accept me.
