I'm starting my first year at a local college in Connecticut, but I'm looking to transfer after a year here. CCNY happens to be one of my top choices to transfer to for Fall 2015. Anyone else happen to be in the same boat? Or is anyone applying to any other CUNY schools?

I’m currently attending CUNY kingsborough, it’s extremely cheap and great for getting GenEd courses out of the way. I’m looking to transfer to CCNY for the EDM (Electronic Design and Multimedia) B.F.A program. I’m going to graduate spring 2015 and I do hope to get into CCNY for Fall 2015. I’ll be graduating with a A.S in Fine Arts. CCNY is one of the few CUNY schools with an art department offering digital art courses instead of just the traditional studio courses. I’m more interested in Design and web development.

There is a whole separate portfolio application for the program too so I’m going to use my last year to develop a great portfolio. I changed my major from CS to Art at the last minute but I am so excited to go to CCNY, I really can’t wait. I would transfer now but it’s better for me to transfer to CCNY after receiving a A.S degree for credit purposes. I almost made the mistake of going for the Graphic Design A.A.S degree at KBCC but I learned that I may still be required to take GenEd courses if I transfer with a A.A.S degree.

I’ve heard alot of different opinions on being at CCNY, some bad and some good but if there is one thing I’ve learned is that your College Experience is what you make it.

I like to look at CCNY Secrets FB page. It’s hilarious: https://www.facebook.com/CcnySecrets

That’s a good plan. Best of luck to you!

Yeah, I’ve heard a few different things too but for the cost, CCNY is so worth it. I’m looking to transfer for Fall 2015, so I think we’ll be applying around the same time.

I’ve heard it’s pretty selective though. Have you heard of what they’re looking for in the applications? Anything in particular, such as high ECs or community service, or is there huge emphasis on grades? I was a good student in high school, but I went through some rough patches and ended up with two Cs on my transcript (one sophomore year, one senior year). Overall, my GPA was pretty good, but not outstanding. I just started the fall semester of the college I’m currently attending this week, but I plan on kicking ass and emerging with a 4.0 and a nice resume come springtime.

I just checked out that FB page though…and now I’m having second thoughts. Lol.

oh man I didn’t mean to give you second thoughts on attending. I really like the FB page, It can be difficult to make friends at Commuter schools like CUNY so at-least commenting and replying to other students on the page is one way to make friends.

Depending on what you plan to study the gpa requirement is different, but to just get into CCNY you need to maintain a gpa over 2.5. I haven’t heard about CCNY being selective but I do know that The Grove School of Engineering at CCNY is and that students need a gpa of 3.5 and up. As far as I know Hunter, City and Brooklyn College are considered the top CUNY schools.

I can’t imagine any CUNY really caring too much about EC’s but I don’t know what their standards are for resident-students and non-resident students plus the factor of whether or not they are freshman or transfer.

If you have any questions CCNY has Ask Edward: http://www.ccny.cuny.edu/askedward/
I asked a question once last year and I received an answer in a timely manner. Think of all the questions you want answered and put in one email so that you won’t have to keep sending emails.

Thanks for your help, I seriously appreciate it!

Yeah, the only thing that threw me off were those pictures of the dead mice and the bed bugs and the gross things in the food…I would be staying on campus, so that freaks me out. I’ll definitely email my questions through that link.

I think I’m going to apply to Hunter and Brooklyn as well as City. I just want to end up somewhere where I can get a solid education and connections to jobs, so I hope these CUNY schools have what I’m looking for.
