Any currently enrolled NYU students get in without AP classes?

I'm a Junior in high school and REALLY interested in NYU Stern. I want to get in, but I have not taken a single AP class in my high school years, only Honors classes! My school offers two AP classes per year and I have taken none. I only take Honors classes. Next year I am planning on taking both AP classes to challenge myself but will that be too late? Are there any NYU students who got in without AP classes, or only AP classes Senior year?

They look at the rigor of your specific curriculum relative to the student body at your particular high school. Your honors classes will be a strength if you did well in them. If you are applying to Stern, I think they will be more interested in whether you have taken Calculus and your math performance on the SAT or ACT, etc

Hey, thanks lightingmom! Yes, I am getting A+s in my math honors classes. I am taking AP Calculus next year and I hope that will look good, but also because I love doing math and being in fast-moving math classes (I can’t stand being in slow math classes at all!). Okay, I have been working on getting good Math scores on the SATs and I’ve up’d my score by 100 in the past month, and it has become a 650. I hope to get at least a 750 or 780 on the SATs in January… hopefully!

Wishing you the best. Sounds like you’re on the right track!

If you are taking AP’s in senior year, you will not be applying to NYU without having taken AP classes. Since you are a honor’s student, I would not worry about it. If your grades in your AP classes are strong senior year, make sure guidance sends either a quarterly report or mid-year grades to NYU so they are considered as part of your application.

@uskoolfish, yes, I am going to take the two AP courses offered at my school for senior year, with the addition of Honors Trigonometry/Pre-Calc! Alright, thanks a lot! :)

Can anyone reply to this post? I get major anxiety just thinking about how much I messed up my Junior year…
