I don't have a perfect 3.9 GPA, but the one thing I do have to offer is music and choir. I'm not hardcore hardcore, I don't go to interlochen or do expensive things like that, my parents won't drive me to honors choir auditions because it's all expensive and time consuming, but I join choir no matter what and stick to it through and through, and I plan to take AP music theory. (My dad and stepmom work for U of M though, in PR, so that's got to be a help of some sort, right?) So getting into U of M is my dream, and I'll do anything to get into it. I also enjoy music more than anything else and I'd love to go into it as a career, I have this little dream of writing songs. I doubt I have a chance at getting into regular U of M academics wise, I know I'll have good test scores and essays and everything, but not good grades. But does anyone know if auditioning for the music college would be even more stressful and difficult? According to their website, they only have about a thousand students in music, theatre and dance.

Their Musical Theater department is rated about sixth in the nation. It is extremely, extremely competitive. I assume the theater, dance and music departments are also extremely competitive.

To get into any of the performing arts at U of M, you must first be accepted academically and then you must audition. And they are all competitive.

If u want some inspiration, My friend got into the music schoool this year after getting waitlisted. He, like you, has a passion for music and will make it a career once he graduates from it. He too wants to write music and he's in a band that almost got a recording contract with a major record company. What makes it interesting is the fact that he got into Michigan w/a 23 on his ACT. Yup, I couldn't believe it either. So he must have really kicked some ass on his guitar solo, otherwise he'd be at Berkely.

Berkeley is an even better school than Michigan, How would he get in with a 23 there?

it would be harder to be accepted into u of m's music school than lsa.

A bit off topic, but you asked for an easier way to sneak into the U. If you are male, the School of Nursing always has a much higher percentage of female applicants.

I know a couple of people who applied to the music program, but their applications were due dec. 1... so it might be too late already
