Well, i applied last week for merit aid from usc so i might hear back in jan/feb. I don’t think i can make RISD’s early notification deadline on tuesday so i’ll be hearing from them in april

oh wait USC merit aid comes out earlier??? i didn’t know that. then I as well have a jan/feb answer hahaha whew.

yeah, i heard their trustee/presidential scholarships come out around then (meaning we also get first pick at dorms if we get in since they’re first come first serve)

then again, my gpa and SATs aren’t really high enough for those haha, but i think yours are

awesome. thanks for that update.

btw ty for the friend request hahaha

whats your list in order of preference, if you don’t mind me asking?

hmm… well, RISD/USC are tied for second choice, followed by cooper union (mainly for financial reasons though), RPI, Syracuse, Northeastern, Pratt.

Why is pratt so far down? because I live a 15 minute car drive away from it and i know what the area is like around there. The recent mugging of a student (that put him in a coma) should say it all.

I don’t know though. Coming from a school that’s 60% asian to a college that’s 8% asian will take some readjusting again haha

hahahaha for me its Syracuse/RISD for first choice, then cooper union(also for fin. reasons. but seeing as I got rejected from cornell for gpa, i doubt i’ll make cooper), then USC, CMU, and Cal Poly SLO.

USC would be up there, but I don’t really like the whole atmosphere of the school… hahahah if the recent mugging of a student in Pratt is off-putting, you’re gonna LOVE usc. Compton, anyone?

but uhh… hahaha RISD I’m not applying as an architecture major. I’m applying for the Brown/RISD dual enrollment for a philosophy/industrial design program. I plan to go to graduate school for architecture instead if I’m accepted there. Buttt obviously RISD has the 1st year foundation, so if I don’t get accepted into Brown and just RISD, i’ll probably switch over to the five-year arch program.

And I know that 60% asian feeling. It’s somewhere around 90% at my school.

You know what Arctic. I think it may well be our race. You’re Chinese, I’m Korean. And we all know there’s a de facto affirmative action that works against us Asians. Since all the other Asians get 4.0’s, us normal people lose out. Hell it’s not even about being normal. You seem like a very intelligent guy. I think we just found BETTER things to do than college pad during our four years of high school like the rest of our peers.

I don’t know what’s more infamous, compton/south central in general or bed-stuy/north and east brooklyn

Then again, i’ve lived in brooklyn my entire life (southwest, so it’s not as bad. I’m also pretty tall and fit compared to the rest of the asians in my area, and people say i look pretty intimidating, so that might be why i haven’t had any issues [though i call it being aware of my surroundings])

I’m also wary of going to pratt because the subway line there is extremely inconvienent for anything… and i want to get out of nyc for a bit if possible haha

and even if you don’t major in arch at risd, i’m sure we’d meet eventually if we both go there haha

And yeah, I hate being an ORM sometimes. I saw URMs get in over better qualified asians and whites in my school today. And no matter what colleges say, they have race quotas. If there’s not enough URMs, they’ll prune the admits and accept more URMs even if they’re less qualified (the ironic thing in this is that they’re trying not to be racist, but in doing so utilize racist actions… if only college apps were all done via a number with your name and race hidden.)

And yeah, I opted not to take medical diagnosis/math exploration/other gpa pads in order to go for what i really wanted (architecture classes) and to free up my time for my architecture program afterschool as well as the architecture club. I just realized how repetitive that sounds haha, but it’s just how interested i am.

ArchitectKid1, letstalkcollege, how’d you guys do?

didn’t get in either. ■■■. i can’t stop thinking about

life goes on though. i guess.

all of the other schools on your lists are still very good architecture schools! do not get discouraged! you will be great wherever you are!

Well, I got in for architecture. Didn’t see that one coming, since my extracurriculars were pretty weak. I think my portfolio helped a lot.

Good job to all those who were accepted, and good luck to everyone else.

Looking at your stats, i’d say that helped a lot too. Congrats :)

Called because It might have been my late teacher rec, but the director of admissions was kind enough to narrow the reason down to my freehand drawings (I only included two, and they were both just rough sketches)

So my gamble with the amount of digital art didn’t work after all oh well, time to start drawing for my other colleges.
