anyone heard anything about financial aid yet?
I got in EA and got a scholarship (OOS) but I'm just wondering about need based aid..

Financial Aid packages go out in early April.

I got mine, around $16,500.

Two things....
1. do you get a letter if you are not getting any aid?
2. anybody have any info on how good the engineering program is?
I am accepted into the Commonwealth College, and I am thinking chemical engineering, possibly going to med school....

chacha, you will be informed if you're not getting any aid. and i wanna know how good the engineering program is as well. im in the Commonwealth College as well.

Engineering is highly ranked, but especially computer science engineering and chemical engineering.

The collaboration of the computer science program (ranked in top 10 in country on a variety of rankings) with the computer systems engineering program works to the advantage of the engineering ranking as well.

Science Watch magazine called the combination of chemistry, chemical engineering, and polymer science a chemistry "powerhouse." Polymer Science is ranked #1 in the country.

Just as Boston is known as a hub for biotech, Amherst is getting recognition for being the place for nanotechnology. Check out the Engineering department website for more info.

Just to alert you. I called today because D (who was accepted EA) has not received anything from Financial Aid. They "couldn't find her" in their system (this was the 3rd time this has happened when we have called on various things) and they told me that someone would get back to me. I did just get a call from someone who told us we have to fax a copy of her SS card to them in order to allow FA to release the information. Go figure..............

alliesmom--
i have worked at several colleges. this usually happens when the student puts an erroneous SSN on the application, or when his/her name on the application does not match the name on the FAFSA and/or social security card. any chance there could be a discrepancy? in these days of online application forms, the simple transposing of two digits in a SSN could mean a delayed financial aid packet. my daughter had something similar happen to her.

admisscouns: no, she used the Common App to apply and I double-checked the FAFSA and it was correctly listed. The thing is, this has happened twice before with UMASS - they couldn't find her in their system. Strange. Of course, today I went to the Safe Deposit Box and the card wasn't there, so that means its somewhere here in the house - YIKES! Got to start looking for it!
