My point is, you cant look at one isolated area (rochester) and say that global warming is happening. If you were to only look at the links i posted above, you'd think that the earth was actually getting colder. I think it's important to look at the overall weather, which has been getting warmer on average, to make any conclusions about global warming. Further, global warming does not mean the average temp rises an average of like 10°C in one yr (which is what happened in rochester this year). This is what many scientists actually believe "Observational sensitivity studies and the climate models referenced by the IPCC predict that global temperatures may increase by 1.4 to 5.8 °C between 1990 and 2100." 1.4 to 5.8 °C, not 10°C!

As far as whether we have it or not, hell ye we have it...the average temp has been rising over the past couple of hunded of yrs. Now what is causing global warming, that's where the debate should lie i think.

we have our future meteorologist! lol...good explanation...but my point was on average, in the east coast where i have experience in, has been getting warmer...but as u said looking at one area (east coast) can't conclude that these are the effects of global warming...what do u think is causing global warming? pollution?

where do u come up with these websites? it's like you have a favorites folder on ur computer with all the global warming links on them and whatever other topics that arise...i take the bus to lower global warming lol...what are u doing? k, let's not talk about conserving energy and all...

You can tell that that website is a complete lie because deforestation is actually not happening... Its forestation...
There are more trees in the US now than when Columbus first landed.
Additionally the people who are taking down the trees are the ones who have always been for thousands of years- the natives in central and south america!

your source hopkinslax?
Just because there are more trees than when columbus landed doesnt mean deforestation isnt rampant in certain areas - areas where the trees are absolutely vital to the stability of the ecosystem.

suman - apparently jersh feels strongly about global warming, thats all. I don't know much about it so its nice to meet someone who does, we all have something new to learn everyday and so I respect his opinions.

actualy, lol, i am not a global warming/greenpeace/treehugger person at all. I just like to argue and refute statements that have no scientific basis. Deforestation is a huge problem in the world today. It' true that the United States has gained a lot of its trees back, but that's due to active reforestation campaigning. If you look at many of the tropical countries yuo will notice that the deforestation rates have been increasing at an alarming rate. True, the natives have always been cutting the trees, but never before have there been huge economical incetives to do so and unlike before, new technology is allowing all of this to happen at a much faster rate.

check out some of the tropical countries: http://rainforests.mongabay.com/deforestation/

4.2 million hectares (10.4 million acres) a year in Latin America

1.8 million hectares (4.4 million acres) a year in Asia

1.3 million hectares (3.2 million acres) a year in Africa

Oh, about the websites, i dodn't store em, i just like google a lot lol

I love how I unintentionally turned this threat into a conservation disscussion. Which before me, was turned into an indian discussion forum from "girls going to UR" forum. Sweet!

By the way, i live in rochester and have been to UR campus at least 20 times....just going to do research at the library, visiting friends, sleeping over , etc. So i know lots bout the campus. If you guys have ?s, fire away.
