So top choice was a private university that I found out I cannot go to because it costs too much. So now I am trying to decide between CSULB and UCSC. Both are going to be fully covered with just a small amount in loans.

The thing I like about UCSC is that it is a residential campus. But the thing that scares me is that I never visited and do not know much about it nor have I ever been in that area of CA. I am scared that I will not be happy in the area.

CSULB is more close to home, but people commute more. (I would commute too)

Does anyone want to tell me why I should choose UCSC instead of CSULB?

Also I’ve been looking at the different colleges.
My top 3 are 9,10 and Stevenson, but Idk what order to put them in because I like all of them.
What would be better for a science major?

The only college that really has an advantage for (some) science majors is Crown. 9/10/Stevenson all have their fair share of science majors, though.

UCSC is located in a coastal forest. The college is literally on a mountain. The ocean is right there with beaches and the boardwalk. There are a lot of hippies. San Jose and San Francisco are close by. Santa Cruz has the feel of a smaller city. Some parts are pretty ghetto. There is pretty much a complete lack of Greek life, and I hear its not supported by the school. My sister went there, drugs are pretty prevalent but its easy to avoid if you are not into that scene. If you do not like to walk, then this is not the college for you, as it generally take 10-15mins to get to class. The athletic programs seem to be not as important to the culture of the school as it is to others. Astronomy is one of the schools most prestigious majors. My sister enjoyed the friends she met on her floor and really enjoyed the community aspects.

If you can not go to the campus you can always take a virtual tour on their website or go to a site like:

Wow thanks.
I was bummed about not affording my first choice, but now I am super excited about UCSC!!
I sent in my SIR, but Idk when or how to pay the deposit. Any help?
