It is so sad to see many programs cut by the colleges. It is bad for the current collegiate athletes from these programs, it is equally bad, or even worse for the HS 2021 student athletes. At this time, HS athletes already committed to the colleges, and turned downs other top schools’ opportunities. But now, the programs are cut, the recruiting process is terminated, and the chance to find another alternative slot is slim.
No 2021 has committed yet. Verbals? Sure but no one has applied ED or signed NLI yet. I’d rather know now as a hs rising senior than as a new freshman. Even the new freshman are released from the NLI if their sport is cancelled.
HS 2021 top student athletes most likely have committed, at least verbally even if not begin to go through application yet. If they committed and then the programs are cancelled, how can these kids find another slot at this very late of recruit cycle?
Sorry but it is worse for the kids that are there and had the program cut, they committed to that school and now have a hard choice to make stay or go. And Covid is making it worse, Uconn for example raised 1.5 million to keep track and field but lost XC ( cross country) BC of Title 9 they xc have one more year to compete back in the big east UNLESS their fall season is cancelled. If football is not played this year it will be hell for the non revenue sports.
For the kids that are already there, at least they can stay for the academic part. But for the kids who are in the middle of application, they can’t get anything from their commitment
We have a close friend that was most likely heading to Dartmouth to swim, but now she is opening her recruiting back up. It looks like she will go to another Ivy or a Nescac.
