So we have to be on campus at 8:30 AM to check-in but acting audition is at 2:30 PM, dance at 4:45 PM, and vocal at 7PM. I really wasn’t planning on paying for a hotel a second night but I have a 4 hour drive home.

VAmom1234-from what I have read and heard you really do need to plan on being there until about 8pm. I was hoping not to spend a second night either but with a 12hour drive I am hoping to get at least a little bit of distance before needing to pull over and find a hotel.

Based on last year, Elon does stick pretty close to their time frames given to each student. So based on what they’ve sent you, I would plan on finishing around 7:30pm at the latest. It is a long day with lots of down time for the parents especially, but there is a room set up for reading, online work, etc. And there are some restaurants and coffee shops just a block or so away. We made sure to catch lunch on campus with some others auditioning - and I would take advantage of this free time there. The current MT students are aware of the auditioning kids and voluntarily engage them with info and answers to their questions. Frankly, I think it’s sometimes the lunch hour that seals the deal for some prospectives; you really get a great feeling about the school and the kids. It is a long, but productive day!

Our D auditioned there on 2/8, the weekend of a huge blizzard in the northeast that prevented 20-30 kids from making it to their audition! There were still 90 or so kids auditioning that day, and we were there until about 8:30pm. They were calling kids alphabetically by last name that day, if I remember right, so you may be there later if you’re near the end of the alphabet! They did warn us that we might be there until 9:00pm or later…if there are fewer kids auditioning on your day, chances are you would be finished earlier, but it was about a 12 hour audition day for us!

Elon has had a huge increase in the number of auditioning students the last few years, and they only audition on campus. There were 90 last year on the day my son auditioned. There have been discussions of doing some sort of pre-screen, but nothing as of yet.

There were 130 at this past Friday’s auditions. It was a very long day with plenty of down time, but as it turned out my daughter and I knew a lot of the other kids there, so it was very social. They could have kept my D there for days and she would have been willing to stay, she totally fell in love with the school. The competition is so tough, she wishes she hadn’t fallen in love!

^Shaun0203, don’t despair. Last year my D also fell in love with Elon which was her last campus audition on March 2. She learned of her acceptance to the BFA MT and Fellows very soon thereafter, but, after going back to spend part of her Spring Break at Ball State, she accepted her BFA MT there and realized that it was truly a perfect fit for her once she attended classes, saw shows, and just hung around with the other performance kids. Two completely different colleges, but a love for each in its own right. Best of luck to your D that she find the perfect fit for her!
