Holy Cross is needs based aid only, BC is essentially needs based only (Presidential Scholarship extremely competitive, only about 15 per class , must apply Early Action to be considered), not sure about the other schools on your list in terms of the needs vs. merit mix.

You should also look into Villanova, Fordham, U Miami, Clemson, U Maryland-College Park and Northeastern University. These schools may give you some merit scholarships and are probably the type of school you would be interested in.

OP –

too many variables at this time. All you can control now is taking the hardest classes you can, and doing well in them. Try to find at least one EC you are passionate about and develop that to the point of demonstrated leadership.

If you are top 2% in your class, and have top 5% SAT scores (1400+), and solid ECs, there is no reason you won’t be a strong candidate for Notre Dame, a match to BC and Nova, and a Safety to all the other schools on your list.

Oh yeah, one more thing PSAT – people forget the PSAT is THE metric used by many schools to allocate scholarship money – USC for example pays 50% tuition to NMSFs. Many Flagships, e.g. Alabama, Arizona St, and several more, pay 100% tuition to NMFs or sometimes even NMSFs with 3.5+ GPAs. SO, take the PSAT and do your best. It could mean tens of thousands of dollars to you 15 months from now.

probably the equivalent to a New York State school. 15 to 18 grand??? *

Don’t assume. Ask your parents how much they will pay each year. They may not be able to pay $15-18k…so ask to be SURE!!!

*Well, I would be hoping to gain some sort of scholarship.

A few are public universities so the out of state tuition is not terrible. **

Maybe with a little bit of money it would make it more feasible. Which would you say I would have the best chance to receive money from?
*

I don’t think you realize how much OOS publics cost. A school like UMaryland would cost you about $40k per year for an OOS student. UDel would be about $36k per year.

Right now, your list is NOT good for merit scholarships. Another issue is that most of your schools don’t meet need and your parents contribution won’t probably be enough.

Right now…since it looks like you’re going to need good sized merit, you need to concentrate on getting the best scores on the SAT and ACT and to have a high GPA. Are you taking the PSAT next month?
