Insight on Science Majors for Pre-med
I attended the honors program in March (I'm so jealous of everyone whos going for the April visit! I had a great time!) and we were given to meet with advisors and schedule our classes in advanced. I got paired up with a wonderful advisor, who unfortunately knew the bare minimum of the science curriculum. Along with I am sure so many others, it has been my plan to go pre-med for so so so so long. It is a little early, but I am planning to go the Osteopathic route specifically, but I am going to apply to Med schools too of course. I feel a little uneasy about finding the right major. My grades have been pretty even across the board, but I have always been interested specifically in the sciences, so I believe a bachelors of science is the right track. (YES I know you do not have to major in science to get into med school). I was accepted as 'Science-Undeclared' but at the moment, I think I am going to go the Psychology or Neuroscience route (but most likely Psych).

My only reservations with going the Psych-Neuro route is that I have to take Chem and a Math(Calc) my freshmen year which is followed by Bio and Orgo. Call me crazy, but for some reason I feel more comfortable taking Bio and Chem my freshman year. Has anyone taken this route? Biology is my strongest subject, but I have heard it is extremely demanding course. I am afraid it might be a little much to double up Bio with the dreaded Orgo.

My question is: is psychology a popular major for kids going the premed track? What are the more popular routes? I would really appreciate it if anyone could give me any insight about majoring in the sciences in general as well, good or bad. I was also considering doing the Public health program. I sat in on a lecture and loved it. Would anyone recommend Public health?

I know it varies from person to person, but I really would appreciate any advice because I don't have much time to find an appropriate fit. I want to get my schedule right from the start. Thank you.
