Any interesting courses recommended for this Spring?

Any interesting courses recommended for this Spring?

Uh…

L&S 40C - history of hollywood
Espm 110 - primate ecology
English 80K - children’s lit
History 118C - 20th century Japan (booklist was awesome)

I took these for breadth, I think.

^How is ESPM 110? I might take it, but the only person I know who took it said it was just an okay class and that it was a lot of reading.

Many classes turn out to be what YOU make of it. Espm 110 is no exception. I was interested in the course material and happened to enjoy the diverting albeit dense reading :)

English 80K is limited to freshmen/sophomores right now.

WHY.

**** arts/literature breadth.

ESPM 114 is very easy and the professor, Justin Brashares, is a great lecturer with a nice sense of humor. He plays clips of nature documentaries before every class. The discussion section is a bit dry and some of the homework assignments were graded much harder than they needed to be, but all in all, the class is easy to do well in.

AHH I want to take 114 since everybody says it’s really amazing, but it conflicted with another class so now I think I will take either ESPM 110 or insect ecology. I loved NST 11 (Toxicology).

Last spring I took ESPM 110, ESPM 114, and ESPM 113 (for a few weeks before I decided to drop).

ESPM 114 > ESPM 110 > ESPM 113

ESPM 110 has very interesting material. It’s not a ton of work per-se, but you definitely can’t slack off. Only one midterm and a final, but there is a research paper. The paper wasn’t really that bad if you consulted with the professor or GSI about it while you were writing. Optional group field trips to SF/Oakland zoo. I couldn’t understand why only about 65 people signed up for it last year since there were a ton more spots left.

ESPM 113 requires a fair amount of work, which for a two unit class doesn’t make much sense. It really got into the nitty gritty of ecology (math, stats, etc) that I found a little difficult and boring, which is why I decided to drop it. But Dr. Welter is super knowledgeable and he tries to connect with his students since it’s such a small class. If you are more into natural history of animals, then take 110. If you like straight up ecology, take 113. Either way, you can’t go wrong IMO.

Any other interesting courses except for ESPM?
