Just got a waitlisted email. If you haven't gotten a rejection or waitlist email... I would hope the best.
Best of luck.

I'm sorry :(
Just remember though guys.. that a rejection or a waitlist does not mean that you're not qualified or that you can't handle the UC workload etc.. I'm sure all of you are amazing people, students, thinkers, intellectuals :D Keep those heads up!! And don't let this crush you entirely, even if UC was your first choice.. Those things can change.
College admissions on the most part seem to be very strange.. (especially looking at outcomes at my HS - even the ones that get accepted sometimes make people go--> :s ?!?! )
I want to commend you for even applying and pursuing a dream - that itself is truly courageous hehe - that's what I think (esp. to a place like UC with its uncommon application - I know so many people who look at the essay prompts and make a dash for it!!!)
You truly are all amazing individuals. And I totally know how you feel, I've experienced 3 rejections myself :)
It's all part of the learning process.. and all part of maturing.
Good luck to you all.
May you be happy!!

Best wishes,
C :)

teotihuacan and all other waitlisted friends,

will you guys send additional information to UC?

Don't be discouraged!

waitlisted.

damn.

brandeis it is

configure, if you still want to go to chicago, get in touch with [url=http://psac.uchicago.edu/profiles/tim.html]this guy/url. he got in after being waitlisted and got generous aid too, you might want to give it a shot. good luck.

configure,
sorry you got waitlisted. I think you are going to like Brandeis, though - there is definately the intellectual livelyness factor there, and Boston is a great city to live near.

If any of you have the emotional energy to pursue it, I think that proactively working the waitlist might be worth it. xiggi made the point that knowing (or making an educated guess as to) why you were waitlisted might help to get you off of it. If it was grades - maybe this quarter's were better, if your recommendations were a bit lackluster, send another one.

I wish all of you the best, whatever happens. Last year, somebody's kid didn't get off the waitlist until late July. He was, I believe, very persistant.

according to the email, its because i asked for aid:

"The Committee on Admissions has carefully considered your application for
admission to the University of Chicago, Class of 2009. We were extremely
impressed by your credentials and we would have loved to offer you
admission, however we are unable to meet your financial need. Though we
are unable to admit you at this time, we would like to offer you a place on
our waiting list."

so, i'll have to see.

guys, do you know if i can accept Brandeis's offer whilst still being on the waitlist for Chicago? and if chicago should offer me a place, could i dump Brandeis (losing the deposit) and take Chicago?

thanks guys - you're really, truly great

yes configure, that's how waitlists work!

aww I'm sorry configure..
Is Uchicago known to be stingy for aid??

But yehh .. you should accept the waitlist!
Best of luck!!!!

Yes - you go on the waitlist and see what comes up. If you get in, you lose one or both (housing and class) deposits. I believe the UChicago site has waitlist tips.

Chicago has limited aid for internationals.

lol - thanx astrix, i'm just an incredible n00b at all of this :D

yeah, ohio_mom - that sounds good - I'll go for it. time to flood chicago with self-marketing :p

thanx, silver - gonna need it!

well, it ain't over yet, baby blue (anybody listen to dylan? :p)

configure, I'm so sorry. I thought you were a definite yes after getting into Berkeley and Cornell. Shows how random the admissions process is. Do accept the waitlist, although you'll lose the Brandeis deposit if you do get off the waitlist.

Good luck and I hope all works out well! You have our support here. :)

(ps if you need a whole bunch of random people to recommend you, you know where to look. ;))

It's nice to see such a sense of support in the forum. Really nice in fact. Makes me all warm and fuzzy inside. Best of luck to all us waitlisted (yes, that sounds conterproductive, but still).

I know! Even though I'm not going to Chicago, I like hanging around this forum because everyone's so friendly. Well, with a few noticeable exceptions :p

Good luck, guys! Even if you don't get off the waitlist, you've still got a whole bunch of other superb universities to go off to :)

I got the package 5 days ago. For some reason it went to my Grandparent's address in another country!
