I was just wondering, if there are any international students here who got accepted to ivy/top tier schools. If so, please share your story/background and stats!!!
I wouldn’t recommend you to build an ideal profile with that info because most students will have high GPAs, high standardized rests, and pretty good to amazing extracurriculars. This also applies to the ones who are rejected.
@Mrduque i think that applies to US students too. I just wanted to know if their decisions are correlated to their income/fianncial aspects.
There is no way that you could glean that for anyone’s stats, nor will any applicant know if that was a reason they were accepted/rejected; it’s not like the unis are going to tell.
As @skieurope said, it really won’t be possible for you to learn anything statistically useful information. For a start, the international students who post here are just a fraction of the students who apply. The super well-off ones (as opposed to the merely wealthy) very often use private counselors. Moreover, HYP get a disproportionate number of applications relative to the other Ivy League colleges - partly b/c their names are very well known and partly b/c they are need blind and meet full need.
According to the Harvard Club of the UK newsletter, Harvard accepted 39 students from the UK. Barnard accepted 25 (so they said at their accepted students reception in London). It’s been a few years since I worked at Brown, but we used to accept 25-30 from the UK each year, which was the largest single source of international students. About 75% were British and 25% were American or dual/nationals.
There’s a Greek woman who got into Harvard for next fall:
