If so, what/when are you visiting prospective colleges, if at all?

I have not visited any yet. I am hoping to tour the New England area in the fall (probably September or October). I will focus on Swarthmore, Brown, Williams, Middlebury, and others.

On anther note, I cannot for the life of me figure out how to start a thread. How did you do it? Thanks!

I have a kind of strange philosophy: research extensively and decide on what schools I want to go to, apply to 13 or so, and then visit the schools I get into.

We'll see how it turns out.

Thanks fireflyscout, I finally managed to figure it out. If you have any chemistry knowledge at all please stop by as I am in desperate need of help on a chem lab. Thanks again!

danielsjang,
I haven't visited any colleges yet, but that's because I have no idea where I want to go! I have a thread up asking for help which I'm going to bump over the next few days, under this forum if anyone can help me. My dad has the theory that it should be credentials and prestige that decide which college you go to, but if it comes down to it after acceptance letters arrive, I think I'll RC0813 and visit in April. I have a friend who visited Johns Hopkins after being accepted, but decided on Vanderbilt because of scholarships/money.

Well, i havent visited yet, but i plan to visit Cornell in september cus im applying ED there.

I haven't visited any colleges yet. I might be able to visit two of my top choice schools (Vanderbilt and Wash U) this summer, but for the most part I'll just apply to a junkload of schools then visit the ones I can afford and decide.

If you wait for decisions, you'll only have a month to visit, narrow down your choices, and make a final determination. Oh, that month also has major holidays, sports, competitions, and is right before AP tests. It will be a lot of pressure.

Among my son's acceptances, three or four schools had the same "prefrosh" weekend. If he had waited, he would never have been able to make the decision he did.

Try to find time to visit sooner rather than later. Even if you can only go in summer, it's better than nothing. A few of those visits are going to be duds - best to know before applications are due!

I am going to visit Columbia soon but thats the only one so far. This is partly because I’m still trying to figure out what places interest me, when I have a definite list that I can go visit schools. At the same time also feel that the best time to visit is after I get my acceptance letters just to make my final decision.

While college visits are nice, if for any reason you can’t, don’t assume it is the end of the world. For those of you who are students, MOST of your parents never visited the school they would go to. It was generally the State U, and they applied and that was it. Often they never set foot on campus till they showed up, but they ended up getting an education and enjoying themselves along the way.

I’ve only visited two, one is within 15 minutes of my house (SMU) and the other is 4 hours away (UT Austin). Another, about an hour away (UNT), I’ve never officially visited but I have so many friends there and I have practically lived there. Anyway, I’m hoping to go up to Boston/NY around September so I can look at Boston University, Fordham and Sarah Lawrence. I’ll probably also look at Baylor around then. After that, that will be the end of my college visiting :)

Visiting Cornell, Carnegie Mellon, Emory, NYU, Rutgers this August. Hopefully.

Lol I read this acting like I’m still a Junior when I’m actually a Senior now. I keep forgetting. It hasn’t hit yet, I guess. fail

Visited: Oberlin
Visiting: Penn State UPark and Hazleton

Rising Junior, will visit Brown this summer, take a tour before Summer@Brown, even though I’ll be there for 3 weeks, and I’ll never get into Brown. It’s my pipe dream though, what can I say…(: Will visit Emory during the school year, even though I’m reasonably acquainted with the Emory campus as my grandparents live around the corner and my grandpa went to Emory Law. Should I end up in DC I’ll visit American, but those’re the only 3 schools I’ll possibly be visiting any time soon. I’ve demonstrated interest in Hofstra and Tulane though, so hopefully not being able to visit won’t kill me.
