Any Major Surprises At Acceptances? Rejections?

I am a student and I had a few surprises, and am sure many more to come. I got rejected by BU, and got into Michigan, Indiana-Bloomington (facutly scholarship),Bentley Business,Wisconsin-Madison and USF. I have also seen many surprises amongst my friends. Mostly with legacy kids, some having it on both ends and not getting into Penn and Northwestern. Both of these kids were highly accomplished. This is one tough year for kids applying to schools. Although many will not get their first choice, we all end up going somewhere thats well suited to who we are and worst case scenario you can always transfer, however I think the transfer rate is less than 10% which shows most kids end up being quite happy where they go. You must keep this in perspective, I know a few, mostly girls who have withdrawn from society literally for days to "recoup" over a stunning rejection, in fact I will say the entire family went through a "mourning" process. It is devastating especially if you have worked hard your entire life and had to deal with the ultimate defeat. The competition pool is fierce and I am glad I am not part of the whole ivy barracuda pond, I think I would buckle under the pressure! I am just glad to know I am going to college...........awaiting more decisions, one of which is my first choice, but we will see how it pans out. I may sound calm, collective and totally in control but beneath it, I too am a little anxious and will be glad when this whole part of my life is over and I am on my way to college! By the way is it true that Indiana-Bloomington was voted as one of the 10 most beautiful campuses in America from Newsweek? For any of you who might know!

I'm not sure about bloomington, but Wisc-Madison has definitely recieved recognition for their campus.

...Seriously, just look at it: <a href="http://www.uc.wisc.edu/slideshow/slideshow04.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.uc.wisc.edu/slideshow/slideshow04.html</a></p>

IU has an awesome campus and it provides a great college experience. It is a beautiful campus, with lots of trees. It is BIG. Both of my kids applied and I am an alum. Neither kid is going, but both loved it and would have been very happy there.

i will let you know in a few days. if i get into U of Chicago, I will be pleasantly surprised. I might not be able to speak for awhile but typing will be no problem.

Hi KellyConn1,

I don't know much about the schools you are considering but I wanted to compliment you on your insightful comments regarding your friends and the college admissions process. Even though you say you are anxious (and who wouldn't be right now?), you seem calm and mature. Those qualities will take you far in life.

By the way, I did find this link regarding Indiana-Bloomington: <a href="http://newsinfo.iu.edu/news/page/normal/2349.html%5B/url%5D">http://newsinfo.iu.edu/news/page/normal/2349.html</a>. It looks like a special place. Best wishes and I hope you get to attend your first choice college.

hey, thank you! i really appreciate the link, I have actually read that and it is impressive, i guess one of the draws there is that the student happiness rating or whatever its called is super high and i want to be happy in college! I still am holding out for my number one choice, but it is a reach so i really want to look at this objectively and not be too let down when and if i get the big reject. I saw a poll done by Princeton and it said something like 39% get their first choice but the vast majority of us succumb to attending a school further down on our own ranks list. That said something like 94% or 96% stay in that school which means one thing! That is where they were meant to be all along and more importantly, that they really love it or they would change. I have seen too many severly depressed people over rejections and I just don't want to go down that path, of course its easy to say now but when i get that letter, i may feel quite differently. Thank you for your compliment, though I really am just trying to look at this in the most mature logical way possible. All the best to all of you.
