Thank you for the update. My daughter received a “waitlist” letter for the MT program last week. She was thrilled for the consideration because she loves Pace. Candidly, I suspect her chances are slim given the description of alternates and second alternates, then on to the waitlist.
Of course we will keep the faith, but it feels like a longer shot.
We have decided to go with another school. The $$ just isn’t going to come through and I am 100% turned off to admissions. This process did nothing for my confidence in Pace. It seems the departments do not have their acts together and that is worrisome going forward. Four years is a long time to deal with this bumbling around. My experience with other schools is that housing, registration and other administrative decisions need to be a bit more polished in order for parents to feel comfortable sending their kids. Good luck to all of you with your choices. We are out.
I guess some sour grapes are to be expected, but as the parent of a Pace applicant I found the application process to be quite transparent. The whole hierarchy of acceptance/alternate/wait list was explained clearly at the auditions. So was the timeline and method of communication (right down to the fact that acceptance and rejection letters come in the same size envelopes, so you shouldn’t read anything into the size of the letter before opening it).
This is admittedly different from other schools (Emerson, Marymount Manhattan, etc.) that accept a larger number based on the expected yield of accepted students who choose to attend. But, that doesn’t make one or the other system. In fact, out of the 5 audition schools to which my kid applied, there were 5 different combinations of how academic acceptance, auditions, and notifications work.
But if the school doesn’t feel right for you and your child, then going elsewhere is the right decision for you. Heaven knows that there are some highly rated schools to which my kid didn’t bother applying because we simply didn’t get the right vibe from our visits. But our interactions with Pace have been nothing but positive. Just hoping that the alternate status turns into accepted…fingers crossed.
UPDATE: 1 girl who was accepted to BOTH the University of Michigan and PACE for the BFA MT major has just chosen UMich. Whoever the alternate is for this girl I’m sure will be getting the call soon!
No sour grapes. More of a distrust. D was accepted. Now that we have a big decision to make, the lack of organization between the department and the university is a big factor.
We still have not received an audition decision letter. Are letters still coming? We have tried calling and only get voicemail and no one has returned our phone calls nor our emails.
Last week was spring break and offices were closed; I imagine the staff is back today and trying to catch up on everything. Perhaps try your call again?
Alternates/wait listed students are notified, so if you have not received anything from the school you should call and find out if there is something holding up your decision.
