well
we ll wait and see :)

i got my letter today... waitlisted.

i think it's funny cause ive been accepted everywhere else.. including likely letter from nyu. i guess the adcoms at kenyon could tell that i didn't really want to go there.

where else have you been accepted?

i've got my letters through fedex

I got my letter today, but I'm not going. Anyone else choosing full-tuition, everything paid at a large state school over Kenyon?

im going to die! i havent gotten anything in the mail from Kenyon! I got two rejections today from Scripps and Occidental. I called Kenyon and the lady said that they sent some last minute letters because some people visited last minute over the past 2 weeks and that they are sending another batch out tomorrow. She said if I was part of the first batch, I should get something either today (which I didnt) or tomorrow. If I am part of the second batch, I should get it before Friday. I am having anxiety attacks over Kenyon! It is my first choice now and I am so worried I won't get in. Did anyone besides internationals get an email concerning notification? How many people do they take off the waitlist? Ahhh the madness of college admissions! Ill let you guys know tomorrow. I hope the mail gets here soon! NJ isnt too far away!

My d got her letter today, accepted but more $$ would be better. We'll see if she likes it enough to accumulate some debt.

Accepted with a 3.128 GPA (sporting quite a few Cs!) :-D good to know they can look beyond grades, those silly little things

ive been accepted to boston college, nyu, mcgill, boston university, and northeastern. granted, bu and northeastern don't really compare to kenyon, but bc nyu and mcgill all have lower acceptance rates than kenyon. so i was confused.

After visiting, I got the feeling that Kenyon looks for a certain "type" of student. Put aside the GPAs and SATs, they are looking for a certain profile that matches the feeling of the college and the learning style. Everyone seemed liberal, "alternative"-meaning outside of the box/ crunchy granola /intellectual/involved yet very down to earth and passionate. I am not saying you are not any of those things, but if Kenyon didn't get that feel from your application, they may have passed it by. Plus I also know for a fact that Kenyon values the Overnight visits and campus visits. Interviews and Alumni interviews are a must, etc. They look for kids who want Kenyon. If by any chance you didn't visit the campus etc. that may have slightly affected you. Again, I don't know Kenyon all together, but just giving you an idea of what might have been the reason you were waitlisted with such good stats.

I was accepted to Kenyon; I received my letter this afternoon. It said I received a Distinguished Academic Scholarship, which I didn't apply for. Are these rare or am I one in a million? I am wondering because me grades really aren't that good. Any one know?

Waitlisted. They also said that they recieved the largest no. of apps in their history, so the ppl who got in should count theor blessings.
I doubt I'm gonna accept a place on the waitlist (already got accepted at Bates with $$) so congrats to those who got accepted and good luck, Kenyon is an awesome school.

Congratulations Shopgirl. I think they give the Distinguished Academic Scholarships to the top 20% of admitted students. You must have a very good record to have been chosen for this.

I too was waitlisted, but Kenyon was one of those maybe schools for me... (going to umich!)

that person you described is me and they had a glimpse, as i've been very involved in liberal politics... starting my own club at school and what not. but i think it's the interest thing. i didn't visit and didn't interview. i didn't even send finaid stuff in when i heard i was accepted somewhere else that i'd rather go than kenyon since the css profile costs money and that 20 bucks could be used for something better in my household. i don't know if they figured that out or they just assumed i clicked the box wrong when i applied. they contacted me about it and i never got back to them about why i didnt apply for finaid. i'm sure they got the drift that i wasn't that interested in going there.

My D was also waitlisted - she's really struggling right now since she fell in love with Kenyon and other places did not appeal to her as much as Kenyon did. Since this whole process is new to us, I called and asked for more information. The letter really says it all - lots of highly qualified applicants, many more than they can accommodate. Anyone on the waitlist would probably fit in very well and be successful there. The counselor also said that they wanted to be sure about the applicants' interest in Kenyon so that the openings that occurred were offered to those who really wanted to be at Kenyon. She said that there is no way to know whether no one or fifty from the wait list will be offered admission - it's really unpredictable. The main thing is that if you really have your heart set on Kenyon, let the admissions people know! The admissions counselor was incredibly sympathetic and understanding. I left the conversation feeling that they appreciated my D, which really helps to soften the blow.

Congratulations to those accepted and good luck to the waitlisted. My sympathies to those rejected and I hope you all will get into some other good college.

delusion:

Have you heard anything from Kenyon regarding your financial aid? Have they emailed you the aid letter?

It came with the admission package.

SRMom3:
The international students haven't received their admission packet yet and we just got an email of acceptance in which there is no mention of Fin Aid.
It wud take quite a while for the acceptance package to arrive so I reuqested for the Fin Aid letter to be emailed! I wud take a calm nap when that letter comes in!
:)
