Any news from Class of 2021 auditions?

Still waiting on Hartt notification - my D auditioned last weekend on campus. @theatremom10 Congrats on acceptance yesterday… anyone else still waiting?

Just spoke to Hartt admissions office because my D was also receiving emails inviting her to apply! She said there are still more decisions going out in mail today and all should be received by next week.

@Eliza806 I think you should call the theatre department and ask for the decision, since there have been so many delays.

Just received a return call from Hartt admissions (my D had left a message yesterday). They said the spring reception invite is because of academic admission into the University of Hartford. They said letters are in the mail with artistic decision. I am assuming it is a no but they would not say.

@sabersunshine We were originally told there would be an answer by April 1. If they haven’t even mailed them all, it will be into next week. It is so frustrating since we have heard from all other schools and I am making my daughter wait for this last one JUST to have all options on the table. I know there was someone in the department on medical leave, but geez, this is frustrating!

@sabersunshine @Felice1112 My D hasn’t heard anything from Hartt. At this point, she has moved on and is choosing among exciting acceptances in hand. I just think it is discourteous of the school not to uphold its end of the deal, particularly since we jumped through all their hoops - fees, extra recommendation letters, mandatory info session at Unifiieds, plus the audition itself. Even if it is a rejection, how about showing some courtesy to the applicants? If someone in the dept was sick and that caused a delay, they could have sent an email blast letting everyone know they may not make the April 1 deadline.

@sabersunshine I couldn’t have put it better myself! I agree with every word you wrote. I am annoyed and borderline angry. Going to the mailbox this morning, I was SURE there would be something, but no. How dare they mess with these kids’ emotions (and ours!). What is your daughter’s major? I wonder if there is a pattern with majors, since my D’s friend got accepted last week for performance, but my D is a Music Ed major.

We haven’t heard anything either. But the Hartford admissions page does say that everyone will hear by the first week in April. So that seems in line with what @Eliza806 was told. But, like @tabers, we are moving forward with current options on the table.

Yes, definitely schedule a visit to the Performing Arts part, not just the general campus if you can. Ashley Malcolm is the person to contact and she will set you up so your son or daughter can shadow some classes, have lunch in the Backstage Cafe that is where most of the MT students eat and you can possibly meet with a professor. They usually don’t do Friday visits because there are not as many classes that meet on Fridays (my D only has her vocal Master Class that day, and it is early in the evening). Definitely have your kids join the MT/AT accepted students Facebook page too. Many of the current students are on it and help answer questions about everything from the program to the college itself. They are a very warm and welcoming program, which is why my D chose it, and she is very, very happy. She describes it as the “perfect blend of pushing you to grow and supporting you at the same time”.

Ashley Malcolm will be out of the office until May. If you want to schedule a visit, which I highly recommend, contact Claire…

My D loves the program as well.

I don’t know if this helps all of you waiting, but the website and all of the communications we received said decisions would be postmarked by April 1st, not arrive by then. I agree that it’s taking an unusually long time!!!

So - anyone receive mail or emails from Hartt today? We only live an hour away and no mail. My D wrote and asked but no reply. We have been doing due diligence on her other options, but it would certainly be helpful for planning purposes to have all the information in.

@Eliza806 we get a rejection today. D wasn’t surprised or disappointed, she has had her heart set on UCONN Music and this just made the decision easy! I also live in CT.

How is the campus? Dorms? Food?

@Eliza806 - We received a no in the mail today. Best of luck to your D!

@ginja17 - My D is a sophomore and lived in Hawk Hall freshman year, which is the newest dorm. They are renovating some of the older dorms, so some of those are better than others. Hawk is considered the nicest and you have to apply with a essay to one of the RLC’s (Residential Learning Communities) that are theme based. They have an Arts floor, which is where my D lived. Her room was pretty nice by college dorm standards. They also have on-campus apartment style residence halls for upperclassmen, but they are pricey compared to local rents. My D moved off campus this year and it saved us some money. Food is OK - nothing special. Pretty standard college food I think. There is a small Cafe in the Performing Arts Center and that is where my D ate most of the time because of her schedule. She gets lunch there most days, but just pays for it with cas instead of the meal plan.

Hope that helps answer your questions!

@sabersunshine “no” here too but still nothing in the mail. My D emailed and they said given the weather last week… they would give her the letter by email. Then offered her big merit to go to the university in another college. Luckily she had been exploring her other options so that’s great. Best wishes to your student too!

No letter here but my son just got invited to the Spring reception - on Saturday - when we’ll be visiting one of his other schools.

Still nothing here: no letter, no email, and via phone last week they would only say it’s in the mail. I get that it’s a no, so why not just tell her? Leaving that little piece of hope is only prolonging the pain at this point.

@CentralOHmomof4 - we only live an hour away and still haven’t received snail mail. But when she emailed on Monday and said she needed to know so she could plan her college visits to her accepted schools - they emailed her the “no” letter. There was a winter storm on Friday of last week so she alluded to that potentially having held things up. Good luck!
