Any News from Moonifieds??

Okay - Have a nice day! :slight_smile:

@bexsky26 congrats on your Ohio Northern acceptance! We visited there this summer. The people we spoke with and the school personnel etc were so nice & it was a very pleasant tour and visit.

So take Moonifieds out of the equation. If a college rep (from anywhere) sees a potential applicant in any setting (I’m sure there are many opportunities in a year) where it is clearly a quasi-pre-screen, and the outcome is an obvious no, why not cut-to-the-chase and save the applicant and college the cost and time and tell them to look elsewhere. It’s respectful and the right thing to do. Talent cannot be measured like grades, nor can personal taste. Encouraging kids to apply when there is zero interest in the first place is money grab. I think that’s the point someone way up the thread was trying to make.

@mmm333 EXACTLY!

Thank you for the feedback from those of you who have been around the block! Your perspectives are truly appreciated and many of us who are going through this for the first time have depended on your knowledge and insight.

With that said, the original intent of this thread was to be a place where parents or kids who participated in Moonifieds could share acceptances, rejections, information or simply vent about the process. I know Moonifieds has been WIDLY discussed here on CC and, honestly, I’m not sure we’re ready to rehash that topic. We simply want to know if there is information we should keep up on. Thanks! :slight_smile:

I understand the thread is a place for those who participated in this year’s Moonifieds to discuss, share, and/or vent about that experience.

There was a post critical about having to pay to submit an application to these schools to get a “result” of some sort. Since it is a public discussion forum, others weighed in on that point. I know I had no intention to discuss Moonifieds, and was only responding with a perspective on that one point. I think it can help to have a balance of varied perspectives. It wasn’t a free for all discussion on “what do you think of Moonifieds?” but simply responses to that point of view on that one specific issue.

I’m just trying to say that most students i know, including my own kid, who did not go to Moonifieds, have to submit an application to be considered at any of these BFA programs. I’m not sure why one would expect that process to be different if attending Moonifieds. That was all. Moonifieds is a private enterprise offering other benefits to those who participate, but I don’t think it should give advantages such as not having to submit an application, along with associated fees, that those who don’t attend this private event have to adhere to. I understand the countless fees involved in this process. Really I do.

Carry on! :smiley:

Sorry to have taken this thread off-track but I was simply responding to the comment by mel2421. I think the resultant discussion and comments are likely to be important information in future admissions cycles so that Moonified attendees don’t make the assumption that they do not have to send in an application.

I cannot speak to this year, but when we went through the audition process, participating in Moonifieds in no way exempted you from any fees or applications that others who auditioned at different locations had to pay or submit. I believe this is still true. Moonifieds is well organized, convenient and a cost effective way to audition or prescreen for many schools in one weekend. But it does not exempt you from the process.
What I do think is that sometimes with Moonifieds you may have the cart before the horse because you audition so early - you could have your audition prior to submitting your application. But applicants need to understand that schools may not make a decision until after all of their auditions are completed about whether to extend you an offer whether you auditioned in Novembe at Moonifieds or in March on campus. So like everyone else, you still need to submit your application and fees.

As far as prescreens go, I am not sure whether this year’s moonified attendees had to pay a fee for their prescreen to be evaluated or not - or if an application was required before they could prescreen. As you all know, much to all of our chagrin, each school tends to handle their prescreen and audition processes and fees differently. So there is no one set of rules. It all depends on the school and how they set up their application process. In the end, it is the school, not Moonifieds, who sets the rules for their audition and prescreen process.
I think for most purposes, realize that Moonifieds is just another type of unified audition. I don’t think the students are getting any special perks from the schools in terms of the application process. But they do get some feedback and results early in the process. Where it did save us some time and money is knowing early on a few schools for which we were not suited which we therefore did not take a trip to go audition. But prescreens are much more prevalent now and serve a similar purpose in many cases.

This may be an unpopular viewpoint - but IMHO, if you are unwilling to pay the fees for 20+ schools, you shouldn’t apply to 20+ schools.

We took the time to travel and visit all but one of D’s 12 schools BEFORE applying. In fact, we visited 17, and some didn’t make the cut. This was our choice (we felt fit was a priority factor) It cost more $$- but was for us, the cost of doing business. If you feel 20+ schools is important- and I can see the logic, could the fees be the cost of doing business

Yes @mmm333 that is exactly what I was trying to say. Didn’t mean to set off a huge discussion just venting. My son graduated in May and he only applied to 1 school. My daughter’s friend a VP major found out right away she was accepted and that is what I am talking about.

My D just got accepted to Baldwin Wallace MT! She auditioned for early decision the week prior to Moonifieds. We are thrilled!!!

Congratulations! We visited the campus last spring and loved it!

Congratulations @DrowsyChaperone that is awesome!

I must point out that she did attend BW’s summer MT Overtures program and I think that had a big influence on the decision. 15 kids were chosen to spend a week working with the faculty, and their audition packages for BW were put together by the faculty. Camps are a great way to test the waters and to get to know everyone. I definitely think that helped!

Congratulations to your daughter, @DrowsyChaperone!

My D’s classmate got in BW MT as well and found out today (they go to a Performing Arts School). She had auditioned at BW on Nov 19~
Congrats!

Congrats on your BW acceptances @Mtmomkbh and @DrowsyChaperone . My S is MT2018 @ BW, @kategrizz has a D MT2018 and @IfYouOnlyKnew has a S MT2020 if you have questions…

Wow!!! @artskids - can you PM me their names? I know she has some questions and it would be great for her to have someone to connect with.

@DrowsyChaperone sent you a PM

Congrats @DrowsyChaperone and @mtmomkbh! My D loves BW! If either of you were at the 11/12 audition date… my husband and I did the parent Q&A. Happy to answer any questions via PM.
