Does anyone know how to go about getting extra tickets for NYU's graduation this year? My nephew is graduating and we want to join in the fun, but apparently only 4 tickets are allocated to each student. Is it possible to buy extras, or is there a place where people who don't need some of theirs post? Also, when my son graduated from another college where limited seating was available, video monitors were set up outside for overflow guests and a video link was provided for others to watch who couldn't attend. Any idea if NYU provides these sorts of facilities? Any info on this topic would be appreciated. I tried posting this in the NYU section but got no response -- seems to be mostly populated by high schoolers trying to get into NYU, not parents or current or past NYU students, so I thought I'd try here.

Has your nephew reached out to people he knows? I would bet that there are people who do not need all four tickets, and a facebook post might be a good way to reach some of them, since people have such a wide network of facebook friends. I gave an extra graduation ticket to a friend of mine who I rarely talk to, but I saw her facebook post about looking for tickets. Not NYU specific, but just an idea.

Your nephew will have 2 NYU graduation ceremonies; the graduation ceremony from his school (Tisch, Gallatin, Steinhardt, CAS, etc) as each school has their own ceremony (this is the ceremony where they will call the student by name) and the school wide ceremony.

The school wide ceremony used to be held in Washington Square Park, but is currently under construction so the school wide ceremony will be held at Yankee Stadium.

Tickets are going to be very hard to come by. For his school ceremony, he can try to get on a wait list should extra tickets to become available. However, his best bet would be to ask friends who are using tickets and who has spare tickets.

I have 2 grad degrees from NYU. The first time I only going went to the graduate ceremony for my school and skipping the school wide graduation at the park (too many people for me) and giving those tickets away to my classmates. The second time, it wasn’t as important to me to go to the ceremony so I picked up the both set of tickets and gave them to classmates (gave the school tickets to one friend and the school wide tickets to another friend) because they requested tickets on the listserve.

If your nephew is part of a listserve on for his school, he can request tickets on the list serve and sometimes other students will reply that they have tickets that they are not using.

There is the big whole school graduation at Yankee Stadium, but additionally there are separate, smaller graduation ceremonies held on a different day that are specific to the NYU school that each student attends.

It is at this smaller ceremony that each student’s name is actually called and they walk up in their cap and gown.

D is graduating from Steinhardt and their graduation ceremony is on May 17th, the day before the Yankee stadium one. It is being held in Radio City Music Hall.

Don’t know the details, but perhaps there are more tickets available for these ceremonies.

Hi suportivemom

I am a mother of current freshman at NYU. I do not know much about the tickets but they sure do have a live webcast of the commencement. I watched the commencement 2011 live here in India at home.

Thank you all for the wonderful information! I’m glad I tried the parents’ page!
