give me your stats..

were u accepted into horace mann?

What's the obsession with Horace Mann?

LoL I heard its a great school. However, the last time I checked it had a low graduating class population. So if people want to go because of its impressive percentage of graduates entering the ivies (compared tp schools in the Nation), I guess they should do more research. However as a private day school in NYC, it is still among the best.

Actually EunixD, that's not really true. According to the study by Wall Street Journal in 2003 that ranked private schools by their percentage of students matriculating to ivies, Horace Mann was 4th in the nation with 35 % going to the ivies and three other selective colleges.

i was just wondering if there was a big difference between 35/100 and 350/1000.

it's easier to get a big percentage at a small school than a big school.....it's just economics..principle of diminishing marginal utility

umm...okay? is that why small schools with about 70 students in a grade have the same percentage as "top" schools like Andover with 300 graduating?

The Ivies don't want 60 kids from Andover, but they wouldn't mind 6 from Horace Mann. It's just how much percentage the students would take up at the Ivies, not the percentage that get in, I bet.

I think that's what Bearcats was saying.

exactly...

uh, yeah what bearcats said =)

Well its still good for you in the long run

You have a 35 percent chance of ending up in an ivy and on top of that you are only being compared to 70-100 kids.

Best of both sides?

^^
this is over 3 years old, please let it die in peace

DiveAlive, I am cracking up at your comment…SO FUNNY.

Horace Mann seems to be an extremely prestigious institution with great credentials…I applied this year, but was waitlisted, so I guess it’s off to boarding school for me. Luckily, one of the teachers at Peddie is associated with HM, so I guess I won’t be missing much if I wind up in his class.

horace mann is pretty hard to get into, but they have a rep of being really really really cutthroat, more so than any school in the interschool, which for some reason hm isn’t a part of. if you’re not competitive, you probably wouldn’t survive there …

horace mann is awesome!
