Any OTHER scholarships still to be given?

I know that the **competitive **scholarship finalists have been notified/are being notified, but are there any other scholarships still to be given (like a Dean's scholarship for example, or other merit-based smaller scholarships)?

If so, would those be coming with the decision packet?

I am wondering the same thing. I still think there are possibilities for other scholarship $$$ besides the very competitive ones already mentioned in other posts. One of my residents who attended WashU as an undergraduate and Washu for medical school said he got scholarship money very easily. He attended a private high school and did not get one of the named scholarships. I will contact him for more clarification, though.

My son, a current Wash U junior, received a letter from admissions (or it might have been from his college) sometime in early to mid-March. The letter told him both that he had been accepted and that he was receiving a Dean's Scholarship. We didn't find out the amount of the scholarship until information regarding financial aid went out sometime in April.

He knows lots of current students that received scholarships. Many of the scholarships were not the named ones listed on the school's website.

In response to M'sMom......... those "named" scholarships are part of their need-based financial aid package. Say you are given $25,000 in need-based financial aid: you might have like $22,000 of it be a John Smith scholarship and $3,000 be work-study. When John Smith donated money to Wash U for financial aid, many times donors want their name attached to that money. They're usually just randomly assigned to students. Its grant money, which is mostly what need-based financial aid packages are composed of... money from WUSTL's financial aid pool that you don't have to pay back, and is essentially just deducted from the price of tuition. They aren't merit scholarships.

The only merit scholarships are the ones online and in the brochure. The merit ones are also "named" (the Moog, Danforth, Fitzgibbon, etc), so it can get confusing!!

So, Merit Scholarships are automatically renewed for 4 years (assuming you maintain GPA)? How about financial aid "scholarships and work-study"? Is it renewed every year or do one has to apply every year? What do you mean by random?

All merit only scholarships (with the exception of Danforth) are listed on the website. Two other catagories of scholarships (combo merit/need and need only) will be awarded along with admissions notifications. Random means that the awarded scholarship may have a random name for the scholarship, not that they are assigned to random students. WashU will not reduce the amount of financial aid for subsequent years, unless there are extenuating circumstances. Yes, merit scholarships are renewable for 4 years if the student is making satisfactory progress.

Thank you! I was trying to figure out the random part. Now, it make sense.

thanks, ST2... your explanation of "random" was what I was trying to explain.

My DS applied for the summer research program. Were those selected also notified last weekend?
