Any parent here with a son with stats like mine?

<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/601606-what-my-chances-good-college-3.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/601606-what-my-chances-good-college-3.html</a></p>

Long read but it is detailed.

Don't chance me or anything like that if you want, but I want to know where some of your sons/daughters went with stats similar to mine and if they got in.

18 White Male from Louisiana. Parents combined make around $50,000 with 2 dependents (had 3 for most of my high school years).

School isn't much good for help in these areas so I've had to do most of it of my own free will. I'm far and away highest rank at my school, I've got a .4 GPA advantage over the closest (UW, we don't have AP's)

Thanks if you can. If you don't want to give away those kind of details that is fine as well.

So far I applied EA to Tulane University (My top choice in Louisiana), LSU Honor's College (second choice), and I was accepted to Louisiana Tech University (only if I can't go ANYWHERE else).

Your rank would indicate that you are in good shape. How are your scores? That will help other parents to answer your questions.

I suggest you apply to Rice. The financial aid is very good, and the school is a warm and friendly place with lots of great stuff happening. Campus is beautiful and resources excellent. It's in a very nice part of Houston and is a very different environment from where you are now.

Without knowing your test scores, it is a bit hard to tell. But if they fit with your rank and (I assume) quite high GPA, I think you will be fine for Tulane and LSU.

Do you qualify for any of the Tulane merit awards for Louisiana residents? I don't know how often they give the Founders, DSA and (I forget the last acronym - Dean's Honor Scholarship?) to in-staters... but perhaps you will fit for those as well.

Do you wish to go out of state? Any geographic preferences if so? Fields of interest?

Okay, now that I clicked on your link (sorry I missed it the first time), I see that you have

ACT 31
GPA 3.9
1/44 rank

Would like to try for schools such as Brown or Georgetown as well as the Louisian schools you listed here.

I'm listing those here for other parents (like me ;) ) who might have missed that your stats are available - with more detail - in your link.

I see that you are wondering if you can apply to any schools for Fall admission as late as April or May. Certainly, there are some. But not the more selective schools, whose application deadlines (for regular admission) tend to be in December or January.

But I'm not sure why you are worried about that. I'm not sure you need to take the SAT - or maybe it is the SAT II's you are worried about. In that regard, check each schools admissions website. There will be a deadline for submitting your application and there will also be a list of "last dates" on which you can take the various tests.

Since you are from a small school, and clearly a standout there, it would help to know if any students in earlier classes from your school have tried for some of the highly selective schools.

Also, do you expect you will get great recommendations? Are you first generation in your family to attend college, or no?

You have come to a good site for knowledgeable help. I know the parents on this site will do all they can to help.

btw, in answer to your original question, my S had stats not quite as strong as yours and got into Tulane (with merit aid - the DSA), Lehigh, Santa Clara University and eventually (as a transfer, when his major was eliminated at Tulane post-Katrina) to a lot of schools including Vanderbilt and Johns Hopkins. He is from the Northeast.
