I think it is very rare for parents to move to their kid’s college town because, 1) most kids do not want their parents that close, 2) many parents still have jobs that they can’t just leave (especially if they are paying 70K+/yr), 3) most parents do have a life outside of their kids and we do secretly like it when our kids are not around (so we could walk around naked, eat junk food and binge watch TV).
I do have a friend who told me he was going to move to where his son was going to school because he was self employed and could move remotely. I said to him, “Have a conversation with your son before you move.” He did the smart thing and didn’t move.
@SouthFloridaMom9 What was the timeline? You bought a place for your son, but then he didn’t live there b/c you needed to move in? Can you clarify? Thanks so much!
@twoinanddone Could I contact you this week to learn more about this? Or you can email me marnikatz@comcast.net. Thanks.
I think there is a small percentage of boarding school parents (5-10%) who either rent or purchase a property close to their student. Some do seem to rent and live there so their child can be a day student.
any luck @janjmom ?
Sorry, @MarniElyseKatz - they said they would prefer not to be interviewed.
@janjmom thx so much for asking!
