I'm interested in majoring in petroleum engineering. The problem is I live in New York and I honestly haven't met one person here who's interested in this field. Also there aren't in colleges in New York offered PE. Everything that I know about this field, I know through my own research. I am currently a freshmen in college and I plan to do a year here in New York taking general engineering courses and then I'll transfer. I have UT Austin, Texas A&M, LSU, Marietta and Stanford in mind. I was just curious about what petroleum engineering is really like. How difficult is it to major in? Also, I'm not too great in math. I'v heard so many people say if your not good at math don't go for engineering. What if I work super hard, study all the time and give up my social life, is it doable? Engineering is really what I want to do and I'm willing to do whatever it takes. I just want to know am I being realistic with myself. Any information at all will be useful. Thank you in advance.

Here’s one I think is worth a good read: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/14214945-post2.html
You can get other opinions from others as well.
As long as you can do math and truly work hard, you should by all means get through it. Not as well as the very best, but you can get through it nonetheless.
