Any point giving the APs?

Hey. So I have the same problem that i'm sure many have - (objectively) low grades in report cards. Even though I get marks in 60s, I have been an academic prize winner for 10 years in my school.

I'm sure I can do well on the APs - i've seen some questions. Is it better that I give them?

I would focus on SAT II subject tests. But hopefully someone here who has gone through the process will weigh in. AP books/curriculum is very specific sometimes and students here go through a whole year of AP coursework before taking the test.

The only AP that may be relevant is calculus and sciences. But I think SAT II subject scores (Math and science ones) should suffice.

Agree with fall2016parent SAT Subject scores would suffice. I am not aware of any advantage that AP would have over Subject SATs. As an Indian student since you are already familiar with SAT testing, makes sense to stick to that.

AP advantage is during placement and credits. But that policy also varies from school to school. Places like NYU use AP score mostly to allow you take the higher level of the course but you cannot skip it specifically math. But they apply the same rule to Math Subject SAT -750 and also IB scores 6 or higher.

AP scores do not have much influence on admission decisions. For American kids, AP courses are the most challenging courses available in High School, so taking an AP course shows that you are taking the challenging courses. As an international, just taking an AP exam for the sake of getting a score does not mean anything. (even for American kids, the AP scores for senior year do not come out until after admissions are done).

Relevant for what?

On the other hand, having a good AP score might get you credits once admitted into college, or go to advanced courses etc. (varies widely from college to college)

SAT II scores are considered by many selective colleges for admission decisions.

And finally, you do not give tests, you take tests.

My bad, I swear I knew that :/
