Any Point in Applying? (Looking at Lower Ivies, LACs)

I'm an international (Vancouver, Canada) looking at US universities. If you could chance me it would be great!

Location: Vancouver, Canada
School: Public, very selective. There's a very rigorous application process, 30 students get selected every year out of 300 applicants.
GPA: 95% junior year. Lower during my freshman and sophomore years (around 91%)
SAT: 2100 CR 740 M 720 W 640 (going to retake)
SATII: taking Bio and Lit in Oct.
APs: School only offers AP Calculus AB, which I'm taking next year. I have taken a very difficult courseload during junior year.. but no APs (eep)

ECs:
Editor in Chief, School Newspaper
Managing Editor for Yearbook
Founded/Co-chair Human Rights Club
Model UN, won a few awards at various conferences
I got chosen to go to Ottawa for a youth forum on journalism last October. A group of us there made a short documentary on diversity that got shown to the Governor General of Canada.

Regular Writer for a student-written newspaper for Western Canada
I've volunteered regularly at a foundation that promotes childhood literacy over the past 3 years.
Camp Leader for children's camps at the Vancouver Aquarium, summer before junior year

Self funded and traveled to Guatemala this summer and volunteering there (teaching English to schoolchildren for the most part) for about 2 weeks

Work Experience:
Retail job for over an year until the end of this school year, 30hr/week

I'm looking at:
NYU
Northwestern
Cornell
Brown
Dartmouth
UC Berkeley
Columbia
Amherst
Williams

Thanks in advance!

NYU- low match
Northwestern-match
Cornell-high match
Brown- low reach
Dartmouth- i'm not sure
UC Berkeley-match
Columbia-high reach
Amherst-reach
Williams- high reach

Your GPA and ECs are great, imo.
I think a higher SAT score would help a lot in determining whether you do/don't get into some of your school choices, so good luck when you retake it!

Could you chance me too? (: And please read post #4 before you comment~

What? Admissions rate: Amherst 14.2, Williams 16.3. Amherst and Williams are basically equal in their selectivity. To gauge chances, view a) SAT scores, b) decisions threads in specific college forums. Admissions rate are deceptive because of class size.

thanks for the chances!

I'm worried about my lack of APs. My school only offers one, but I know of students who self-study them at my school/surrounding schools. I never had the time or money to do this (poor excuse, I know), so I'm concerned if that'll reflect negatively on me.

hmm i think the LACs are alright, the guatemala part definitely helps and it's tecnically not your fault that you don't have a zillion APs, but make up for it by taking as many SAT IIs as you can before you have to apply (not absolutely necessary but would def help)

columbia, brown, etc. it's all very random when your SAT score isn't like a 2400, so hopefully they love your ECs and understand the competitiveness of your school, then you'll be fine!

chance me back?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/568714-stern-ed-others-o.html

NYU- realistic (40%)
Northwestern realisticish (40%)
Cornell reach (25%)
Brown reach (25%)
Dartmouth reach (20%)
UC Berkeley slight reach (30%)
Columbia higher reach (15%)
Amherst crapshoot (10%)
Williams crapshoot (10%)

It'll be harder since you're int'l, but you should get into the lower ones, and at least 1 lac or ivy, in my opinion

Can anyone recommend some more match schools for me?
