Any Potential Music Majors out there?

I'm a freshman in the Thornton School of Music. If any people that applied have questions, shoot 'em here, I'd be happy to answer.

I do have one bit of news. The Music Practice and Instructional Center (PIC) which houses the practice rooms and the jazz department will be demolished at the end of the year. Right now Thornton is looking for a new place to build practice rooms and it seems now the place will be University Gateway, a brand new residential complex opening next year. The first floor has something like 33,000 sq ft of "USC Academic Space" which could be converted to music practice rooms. Univ. Gateway is located in the top right corner of campus, just off of it.

Hello there NYJets19!
My S has gotten accepted into Thornton as a comp. major. We read the article about PIC and the possible move to the Gateway apts. on the Daily Trojan. How do you and other music student feel about this? And what is the reason for PIC’s demolition?

After we see about $$ from USC, and other school offers, we will have more specific questions.

Thank you for offering to answer!

PIC is being demolished to make way for an athletic complex. I believe they will be building a new athletic headquarters, moving from Heritage Hall. It’s understandable because PIC is surrounded by athletic facilities, and is sort of out of place and distant from the rest of the music buildings.

I’ve been getting mostly favorable reactions to the move to University Gateway. I myself am ecstatic. UGateway is brand new and looks amazing, and I think it is a prime spot. One downside is that it isn’t on-campus, but it is literally right on the edge. It is still close to McCarthy Quad and the main areas of campus. To be honest, I hated PIC because it looks horrible and run-down from the outside. The ratio of music students to practice rooms is abysmal. In peak hours, I’d have to wait a while to find an open practice room. University Gateway should be able to house many more practice rooms.

you probably wont be able to answer this, but what is the quality of the music business program (how much experience do the professors have, is the program ever update, ect) and how does it compare to other music business programs (belmont, NYU, UM)

So is the demolision planned for the end of this school year with the move before school starts in the fall?
