Hello everyone, I am currently a 3rd year ChemE major at UMBC. If you have any general or specific questions, let me know.
Do you know when merit scholarship offer for the incoming class (HS Class of 2015) will be sent out?
While there is no solid date it’s usually in May or June, give or take a month.
I saw on the UMBC Financial Aid Facebook page that any Freshman merit award letters would be sent on Monday 1-26-15. I would think they would have to let Freshman know earlier than May or June because they have to make a decision by May 1st. Hope this helps. The post was on January 6th.
looks like I can’t post the link. Anyways google: Umbc Office of Finacial Aid Facebook
Daughter is attracted to academic offerings at UMBC, but wants a traditional college experience, and is concerned about the extent to which a large portion of the student body are commuters. College Board says 34% of undergrads live on campus, but that can be hard to interpret. At some schools, a large number of students could live immediately off campus in nearby apartments, shared houses, or Greek residences, but it could also mean that they are commuters. Could you give us a sense of the social scene at UMBC? Does the campus empty out on evenings and weekends, with many students commuting from the Washington or Baltimore metro areas, or is there a vibrant campus life outside of the classroom? Thanks!
I am a Freshman at UMBC currently and in my opinion it can be pretty dead on the weekend. It really depends on who you know and many people I know are planning on transferring or have joined Greek life to have a social life. I myself am planning on transferring, although I have had many good moments at UMBC. I don’t feel like the social life is good enough for me, most of the more normal people on campus belong to sports teams or club teams. This would be my main recommendation if she decides to attend this school.
