Hi! I’m a freshman at PSU now and if anyone has questions or concerns I’d be more than happy to help out!

can you please tell me a little bit about the dance program? how many classes per day/ is it possible to minor/ can students take more than the required # of classes? thanks!!

Hey!!! I was wondering how good the talent scholarships at Penn State are? I know it’s quite an expensive University.

I am so sorry I completely forgot that I posted and never checked!
The dance opportunities are amazing! We have jazz, ballet, tap and Musical Theatre styles that are required, beginner and advanced levels of all. But we also offer modern, hip hop, mojah (african, modern and jazz combo). You can take anyth
There are also dance concerts that take places every year. Penn State was always at the top of my list because of its strength in dance.

You can minor and double major in dance if you would like!

It’s pretty expensive for out of state students, but there is money that the program gets from the university. I don’t know how much or what the criteria is since I am an in state student, but many of my classmates have scholarships based on talent.

The criteria for talent scholarships is just that- talent. While there are posts on CC to suggest that PSU is not generous with scholarship money, we have found them to be very generous. Part of the condition of accepting a scholarship is that the recipient not divulge the amount. That is pretty typical of most schools. However, do not exclude PSU from your list just because of the out of state tuition costs. You may find them to be extremely competitive.

Is it possibly to get a quality dorm or a single dorm freshman year?

They do it by date you put your deposit down and what you’re asking for. My D did not get her first choice and ended up in East. She wanted the quieter, nicer North. But she ended up on a good floor and did not mind living in East (these are small doubles). Boys seem to have better luck asking for and getting North. The sooner you put the deposit down, the better your chances of getting your first or second choice.

I lived in East as a freshman, while most of my classmates chose to live in North. While their dorms were a bit quieter and more newly renovated, I would not give up my experiences in East for anything! I met SO many friends OUTSIDE my program (who I’m still very close with today) and the food choices/computer labs/common building are much bigger and more broad in East East is only about a 10 minute walk at most to the Arts and Music Building. I don’t know of ANYONE who had single dorms in all of my time at PSU. Also keep in mind–as a freshman MT, you spend such little time in your dorm room besides sleeping!!

What are the chances of getting off the wait list?

Is there an opportunity to study abroad in the MT program???

Because the program is mapped out and there are courses you MUST take every semester (studios, etc) you cannot study abroad during the school year (I don’t know anyone personally in the program that’s been able to), but you can definitely study abroad during the summer sessions.
