Any Questions?

Hey everyone! I'm currently a freshmen journalism major minoring in honors and legal studies. Feel free to ask anything about the school, programs, financial aid/scholarships (I'm a Park Scholar, but also know people with financial aid packages), or just about Ithaca as a town in general. Happy deciding!

Ditto, I’m a freshman majoring in tv-r who’s considering minors in theater/math/dance/physics, so I can also answer questions about anything.

Is it possible to double major in between the school of communication and the school of business?

Most definitely. A ton of students double major. What’s your major though?

I was admitted as an integrated marketing communications major.

As a freshman in Roy H Park, can you briefly explain what a typical schedule is like since i’ll basically be in your position this fall if I choose to attend Ithaca?

Like, class schedule?

First semester I had:

Field Production MW 8am-9:50 am
Freshman Honors Math Seminar MTWF 11-11:50 am
Lego Robotics (a java programming class where we programmed things made out of legos) MTTh 4-5:15 PM
Introduction to Mass Media MWF 12-12:50 PM
Funk Dance (a PE dance class) MW 2-2:50PM

and this semester I have

Differential Equations MWF 9-9:50 am
Academic Writing I MWF 11-11:50 am and F 3-3:50 pm
Media Writing MWF 2-2:50 pm
Stagecraft TTh 9:25-10:15 am
Developing Story Narratives TTh 2:35-3:50 pm
Theater Production (which is just working on a show, so the times vary. Right now it’s 8 hours/week for me.)

How hard is it to get a single in the dorms?

Not hard at all. I’m a freshmen living in one right now, haha. It’s easier to get them if you aren’t looking at a specific area on campus to live. You have to be willing to live in any of the sections.

Hello there. I’m an international accepted student from Vietnam. I applied for Park School and my intended major is Journalism. Do you know any facts about the financial aid that current international students at Park School in specific or Ithaca in general receive last year? As much as I love to study in IC, my family can contribute only $10k per year. In my acceptance letter I received a $7,5k Rod Sterling award. So how do you think my aid will be enough for me to go to IC? I scored 2050 SAT Composite, 106 TOEFL and a not so great but upward trending GPA. Thank you very much.

I’m sorry, I don’t know exact amounts, but I do know that financial aid is offered to international students. I live in H.O.M.E (the international dorm on campus) and I know some of the freshmen international students did receive aid. However, you’ll probably still have to take out some loans. Your best bet would be to call the financial aid office (they have a toll-free number). Good luck!!

I applied Film, Photography, and Visual Arts major… can anyone wiegh in on that program?
Does the Park School has its own core or park students follow ithacas core?

hi i was accepted for integrated marketing communications and i’m contemplating either double majoring or minoring in italian studies! ksp791, do people think you’re antisocial for being in a single dorm? because i really want to live alone but i don’t want people to think i’m weird or antisocial or anything hahaha.

Gorgy: I can’t give too much information on FPVA, but I know it’s an AMAZING problem. And each major in Park has their own list of requirements. Like I’m journalism, and I have to take 4 semesters of a foreign language, but I know nobody else in the Park school has to do that.

CollegeBoundFan: Not at all! In my building, 3/4 of the rooms are singles, so everybody gets around to talk with others etc. All you have to do is leave your door open and somebody is bound to stop by. Personally, I LOVE my single. It’s so nice to have my own space. I’m actually getting one again next year.

@CollegeBoundFran

Awesome, I’m thinking of double majoring in film, photography and visual arts and integrated marketing communications, since video marketing is my thing :).

@Ksp791

This is a real silly question, but do they sell Ithaca College apparel directly at the bookstore, or is it only online? I’m dying for my IC sweater! :P

I got accepted to the school of humanities and I’m wondering how difficult it is to transfer into the school of communications. I want to major in film and visual arts, however I got rejected and wonder if maybe later on I could make the switch. However, I’m thinking I should maybe just attend someplace else or try to transfer into the program later. Do more people transfer successfully into park while already attending ithaca or are outside transfers offered more consideration?

Hi, my daugher was accepted as an integrated marketing communications major as well as to the honors program. I’m wondering if she’ll have time to take traditional liberal arts classes outside of the required classes for the communications major and the honors seminars. Thanks!

i’m currently an admitted student with a communication management and design major, but i think i’m likely to change it…although i’m pretty confident i’ll stick with something in the park school, i’m not entirely sure…i’m also interested in engineering, computers, and technology in general but i know ithaca lacks engineering (i think)…so i guess i’m wondering should i take the chance that i’ll end up finding my niche in the park school?

Wow, I am so behind on answering!!

Garygl: Yup, you can purchase things online at the IC bookstore =).

Silver: People do successfully transfer into the Park School, but there are tough requirements. I recommend contacting the school regarding it. It will take you a few semesters to do so though, so transfering might be a better option. It’s really up to you. As a parkie, you have to take a certain number of outside credits, so before transfering in you can fullfill those requirements. You can do so at IC or at another school. It’s really up to personal preference.

Daisy: She will have PLENTY of time to take outside classes. IMC will have a certain number of classes, but honors will only require her to take one honors seminar a semester. The honors program is not stressful at all. no worries! In fact, it’s required to take outside LA classes

enjoi: If you are already admitted into the park school, transfering majors is incredibly easy. It’s just transferring in that is difficult. If you want to go from CMD to journalism, for example, you could do so in a matter of a week or two. So you could definitely start out in park and then change your mind!

Are you in contact with any music majors?
