Sup, I was wondering if there any others out there who received the R & C scholarship. I was awarded it and I'm still kind of blown away at the concept of receiving a full ride to my top choice school. I'm wondering if there is any one else out there who is experiencing the same thing and if so, please reply.

P.S. I'm still wondering what the heck my qualifications were to receive such an honor...anybody know how one Berkeley student gets the R & C scholarship and another one doesn't?

they use R&C to lure the best applicants away from the ivys

basically u just have to have perfect or near perfect grades to qualify. to decide if you're getting it or not, they look at ur SAT and APs and award it to the top 1%.

R&C is not necessarily to "lure the best applicants away from the ivys." Because not the "best applicants" got this scholarship. There are some more qualified who received this scholarship (and I'm not referring allxgravy by any means) who were offered nil.

Heheheh wow I see. I'm just stoked to get the R & C. I didn't even apply to any Ivy's but hey I'm not trippin. In my (very objective) opinion, UC Berkeley is the most awesome college in the world, and I consider myself blessed to be attending such a fine institution. Home to freaks, geeks, and everything in between, Berkeley rocks.

Actually I did not attend an R&C reception. The whole story in a nutshell is that I was awarded the R&C in 2003 when I was accepted to Berkeley the first time. I did not attend Cal at that time and I re-applied for fall 2005 and they re-instated the scholarship. Sooooo, if I missed the reception, I think I will live. ;) Also, I am turning 24, and while I know that a fair sized chunk of the cal population are transfers like myself, I'm wondering if there any transfers on here, and if so, do you have any qualms about being "OLD" and being surrounded by happy ass yungings away from home for the first time. Please share your thoughts with me....as I feel a tad uneasy about being an "oldie" (lol) surrounded by the masses of 18 year olds.

I just read my post...if you didn't gather that yes I was re-accepted....then let me tell you...yes I was re-accepted. LOL. Anyone else out there been accepted to Cal twice? LMAO

I wasn't accepted by Cal twice. In fact I had to appeal to get an acceptance. I'm also an oldie at 26, and I've been surrounded by freshies at my cc. I don't mind hanging out with them but I feel that they're uncomfortable about hanging out with someone older like me. Maybe I don't act like they do shrug

I'm a transfer student. This is the first time I was accepted to Cal, as I did not apply to colleges right after high school. I graduated really early and was too younge to do the whole 'college away from home' thing, so I decided to wait it out and attend JC. I'm 19, and probably younger than the majority of transfers out there. Most of my friends are several years older than me, and it's no biggie. I'm sure there will be mature freshmen as well as terribly immature seniors and 'older' transfers. You just gotta find the right people.

Come on folks: When did mid-20s become old? For goodness sake, if you consider mid-20s old, what will happen when you hit 65? You're young, but mentally mature and more prepared for what's about to happen. Take that advantage :)

Hey I'm a transfer student and got the R&C scholarship, I didn't expect it at all. In fact, I called the scholarship dept. at Cal to confirm that I really got it, and that it was the same scholarship everyone else got.

I didn't get to go to the reception, because I didn't know about it. Could you guys give me some details or fill me in on the event? thanks!
