Any success stories (college) after gap year?

I was recently selected as a Congress- Bundestag Youth Exchange finalist, and am really happy about it. Either way, I will be going abroad for the year, but I was just wondering:

Will this kind of program help me get into colleges if I decide to reapply? I am currently committed to University of Maryland at College Park, but I think I would like it better at some other colleges (I got waitlisted to them this year).

So have there been any "success stories" out there?

^congrats. I got rejected from that program but I’m committed to an Ivy League school. I would also want to try my luck next year. However, idk if I will be considered a transfer or a first year applicant?

Congrats on the ivy league! Do you mean you want to try for the young professionals program? If you go to your college, and then study abroad…i think that counts as a transfer.

No, I am going to take a gap year after paying my deposit.

idk maybe off topic but a couple friends went on their gap years without having applied, and now one got into oxford and the other into yale

@detoidi- gotcha.
I just got off the Vandy waitlist after sending in some updates (including study abroad)…so I guess it helps, haha :D

vienneselights, the ones who got into oxford and yale, did they have ivy league caliber stats already? and what did they do during their gap years?

Applying to Oxford is a bit different because taking a gap year is very common and encouraged in the UK. I would guess that at least 30-40% of Oxbridge admitted students have taken a gap year (but only based on my experience. I could be wrong. It’s a lot though).
