Any suggestions for waitlisted student?

My daughter was waitlisted.
Any suggestions for waitlisted students?

Dan, does Tufts give interviews to waitlisted students? Do you think an interview will be helpful?

No expert but this is what I’ve read:

Send a letter re-itterating that tufts is your top choice and you are sure you will go there if taken.

If you have something significant to add to your application, award won, honor earned, elected position, disclose this in the letter as well.

Do nothing else. You have told the school it is your #1 and you will go there if taken off the wait list and you have updated them on what you have been up to since you submitted your application in December. Certainly I would imagine too many inquiries or updates would be counterproductive, just as doing nothing might not be helpful either. Taking this middle of the road approach demonstrates your interest but doesn’t annoy.

In all reality your “place” on the waitlist is mostly determined by the stuff you already submitted, but a brief letter of interest certainly can’t hurt.

Best of luck to your daughter.

I THINK if you don’t ask for financial aid (or dont’ ask for much), then you’re more likely to get off the waitlist. There was an article in the Tufts newspaper a few days ago about how financial aid funds have essentially “run out” and the last 5% of applicants were not reviewed as need blind. Don’t quote me on that though.

I was accepted and did not get enough finaid to make it work, so your daughter is one spot closer!

My daughter is in the international student pool, and we applied 40K financial aid per year. Tufts is not need-blind to international students, so I don’t know if it was the financial aid application that caused Tufts to waitlist my daughter.

I just read a survey on a collegeapp forum for Chinese students, and it shows that almost all the admitted students are those who didn’t apply FA, while most of waitlisted students are those who applied FA.

So, is there a chance for waitlisted students who apply FA to get off from WL? Or is Tufts just waiting for waitlisted students to withdraw their financial aid applications?
