Any Survivor Watchers?

Any current watchers? Anyone interested in having a season thread this fall?

First episode dropped last week. If we have a thread you should assume that after the show has aired eastern standard time there could be spoilers for that week posted.

No spoilers or speculation about spoilers you might find on the internet. (Like about upcoming episodes or who wins or anything like that).

Anyone interested?

I am watching as I have every season, as well as every season of Australian Survivor and Survivor South Africa. It’s one of my guilty pleasures.

Come on in, guys. Oops, we can’t say that anymore.

LOL, I thought it was humorous how they made a big deal - twice during the first episode - about the “guys” statement. It’s fine with me either way but I had to smile thinking they are still doing some damage control after that season not long ago….

Same with me. I don’t care either way. It does not bother me, but I can appreciate that it might bother others.

That said, if they wanted to change it, they should have just done so. There was no need to make a big production out of it, particularly if Jeff was leaning that way anyway. It just smacked of Jeff/Mark Burnett/CBS standing on the rooftops screaming, “Look how woke we are,” It’s not like they asked for opinions on naming the season “41” or whether Jeff should get a haircut.

The PC policy discussions should be held off-camera, like when CBS issued a press release outlining how their reality shows would be at least 50% Black, Indigenous, and People of Color. Leave the airtime for playing the game.

Having said that, I’m just happy to have a US season of Survivor at long last.

It’s what, a 26 day game vs. 39? Probably going to be a shorter season than normally as a result.

Correct, because of production schedules and quarantining, due to the pandemic. However, they made the season more difficult and allegedly more dangerous.

I’ve been a fan since Season 1, but my family joined for Season 2. I do admit that there were a couple of seasons, in the middle, where I tuned out because the show became uninteresting to me. But I did get caught up later.

I’ve often mused about applying for the show, but my family and I agree that while the lack of food, physcial challenges, survival, boredom, weather, etc. wouldn’t or shouldn’t be the issue for me, my bugaboo would be that I’d fail the social game. There are certain types of people that I just can’t deal with. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Our pattern is to tape the show and watch on the weekend. So, my checking in the thread here will usually only be between Sunday-Tuesday.

And the whole “Come on in guys” was a big :man_facepalming: And I’d already be scheming to get rid of Ricard post haste. Changed his mind? Oy! He’d be “dead to me.”

I am watching! Happy it is back! The first few episodes are always hard for me because with so many contestants I have a hard time figuring out who is who.

So the first episode yes is always a little overwhelming in terms of learning the players.

No rice to start off with, yikes! And a decently tough first challenge.

Episode 2 last night.

Dang, was disappointed to see the neurosurgeon go. I really hate when genders gang up on the other gender - like the women of this tribe seemed to do. Not sure why they decided to take him out instead of Xander (I like him! I just thought with his advantages the ladies would take him out).

Speaking of WHY did Xander share all that info with his tribe!? Like hold some info back buddy!

In the “new” Survivor, the contestants play an individual game from day 1. They seem to forget that it IS a team game until the merge. Who does worst post-merge? Those who come from a decimated tribe. Their alliances of 2-3 mean nothing in a merged group of 10+. It irks me to watch a tribe weaken itself. Challenges always involve some physicality, be it swimming or strength skills. It’s not JUST “build this puzzle”.

I am all for the game evolving after 20 years, and I know it’s not a new change, but for at least one episode per season I wish they would include the opening montage

Agree, something feels lost with the new episodes. Not as raw.
Anyway, my kids are grown now, so they don’t watch with me anymore. But I loved watching with them and pointing out the importance of social interactions, being a team player. How having an idol can be a good thing and you might want to tell your alliance, but that they might not necessarily celebrate along with you, and see you as a threat and want to take you out.
Brad - don’t tell your tribemates that you’re spying on other tribemates. What makes you think they won’t view you as suspicious and tell the others.
Xander - how can your alliance not look at you as a threat.
Am really liking Naseer. He has a wonderful, happy personality.

Naseer’s story was pretty incredible. I think he has well earned Survivor/survivor skills.

Rumor is that Sandra Diaz-Twine will be on the next season of Australian Survivor, thought to be a Blood vs. Water theme. This is not the first time an American player appeared on the Aussie version; Russell completed on Australian Survivor: Champions vs. Contenders in 2018, and was the second person eliminated.

Whenever the three people get together on the island and have to make a choice, I never fully understand what happens if 1 person chooses one thing, or another a different thing, etc.
I don’t think they explain it very well, or maybe it’s just me.

No complaint from me about who went home!

Really? Was one of our favorite contestants. Please explain your rationale?
