I KNOW this is the MT thread but I respectfully wish to hijack it for a bit and ask those of you with CCM info to help:

I am looking for thought and opinions on the Technical Production/ Design program at CCM. DS accepted into the program and is struggling between Rutgers and CCM so I could use any help/thoughts/ information on the program.

He has visited both and compared curricula as well. He is VERY interested in which program will give him the most professional contacts in addition to the the program. Cincinnati is not near NYC (as Rutgers is) so we are wondering about that.

Any help greatly greatly appreciated…hijack over!

Thanks

MikksMom:
Someone from MT forwarded this to me. I’m the chair of the program in theater design and production. It is hard to say specifically without knowing DS’s area of interest but I can speak in general terms. Location does not necessarily dictate contacts - I can not speak to the facutly/alumni of Rutgers, only CCM. One of the things that I like about our program is the strength of our alumni network. We keep in contact with them and they keep in contact with us giving our students a very expansive network of theater professionals to draw from on top of the connections that the faculty maintain professionally. Our students work during the summer and upon graduation, in many areas we have 100% employment in the entertainment industry. Additionally, we have a showcase for designers in New York in the Spring quarter of the senior year so they are exposed to the NYC scene.

I think that what it boils down to is what your DS saw while he was here. Did he like the energy of the people, the place, the shows? Did he get to see one of our shows in production or tech? Does he like a high paced environment or is he looking for something else? Sometimes it just comes down to what “felt” best. Please do not hesitate to contact me - email address available on the ccm.uc.edu/tdp website. Best of luck. MK
