Does any 1550+ SAT scorers want to share their reading and math tips that gave them a high score
My son got a 36 ACT and a 2350 SAT. He took every former actual SAT and ACT test that he could get his hands on. He took the practice tests that SAT and ACT offer online to get a feel for taking the test start to finish. But what I think was much more important was that we bought books with actual tests used on former exams. Be sure to look for the official exams from the College Board with the “official answer explanations.” We bought the most recent version of The Official SAT Study Guide from the College Board. That had 4 prior actual exams in it. He would set aside a day and do all the math sections one after another from each test, then on another day, the reading sections one after another, etc. That allowed him to focus on each section and see patterns in the questions from test to test while the questions were fresh in his mind. He was also very diligent about looking at the answers, even on the ones that he got right, because sometimes he got them right for a different reason than he thought. It is critical to read the explanations of why the answers were right and wrong. There is a lot of helpful information to be gleaned there, if you have the official answer explanations from the College Board. Through the practice tests, he found he was missing the same types of questions over and over again (for example, he was repeatedly missing the Oxford comma questions - so he specifically studied that rule and how the SAT tested it). He also studied Barron’s SAT Vocabulary Flash Cards before taking the exams. He found that vocab was a much bigger part of the SAT than the ACT, but studying the cards helped for both exams. Hope that helps and good luck!
