Any undeclared Sophomores still out there?

I had a really hard time picking classes this semester and its getting to the point where I'm putting off applying for internships and study abroad because i just don't know what i want to do. I'm still considering both science and social science-y majors. anyone else in the same predicament? any advice on how to pick a major, other than "study what you're interested in"?

aaaanyone?

Yeah But I am going to declare American Studies this semester and hopefully my second major in the fall.

undetermined

im undeclared but i know what i want to major in (psychology) and hope to declare by my first semester junior year where ill still be under 80 unitsish

hey, the under 80 units rule doesn’t not include in progress courses, does it? also, if you are declaring a double major, does the 80 units rule apply to your second major?

still not sure ib or mcb. i want to do neuro, but gah mcb seems like such a drag sometimes.

what if you’re doing two capped majors?

it includes units in progress blueducky and if you’re doing two capped majors declare both of them before 80 units or by the end of your junior semester (whatever comes last)

I’m undeclared 4th year. Got a problem?

batman 17: i want to do neuro too! i really liked the psych major’s path for neuro but EVERYONE keeps telling me not to major in psych  cog sci with an emphasis in neurosci has some nice options too.

gobama: who’s telling you not to do psych :P? I think psych fits pretty well for neuro, especially since all the classes offered in neuroscience for cog sci majors are psych classes too (psych 117, 110, 127)… personally, psych seemed more interesting than cogsci where you have to take the ling/phil/compsci classes too…

but eh, I’m having the same prob as batman… thinking between ib and mcb… but i found out, ib’s not for me… material’s kinda vague, and just not interested in the animal/ecology part… so turning more towards mcb… mcb 160/165/167 seem pretty cool.

ya i’m not thrilled about the ling/phil/compsci classes either.
ya i’ve looked at those mcb classes you listed. i’m a bit worried about how many people sound miserable in the mcb major. any thoughts on how to see past those hesitations?

leftist - I know, but I’d still have to take atleast 1 course from that area (ecology/behav/diversity)…and I don’t want to take animal behavior either, I’m only interested in humans… :)… I’m not trying to say anything negative about the major, I’m just saying it’s not for everyone. Atleast for those who have a specialized interest in something like neuro, which mcb offers courses for, mcb might be a better fit.

I haven’t completely ruled out ib, and I haven’t even taken any mcb uppder div’s yet, so I’m not trying to promote mcb either…

gobama - idk, but I heard that while the UD’s are difficult and sometimes time-consuming, they’re also a lot more focused and might be more interesting…

the other problem i have with mcb (and most bio majors in general i guess) is what the hell am I going to do with it afterwards. I guess it’s kinda handy for research, but I’m not a big fan of research…I want to be active. And then I get talking to elders and some are like “yeah it’s tough and most people I know who majored in bio don’t really have careers following their major.” That just puts me into more of a dilemma. Why the hell didn’t I just go pre-med with an easy major? NOOOoooOO.
